Tom,

Could you elaborate on this a bit: "IE only up deflection and turning isn't much of an issue."

The only time I tried rudderless, if only the one flap was deflected up, then the plane sort of lurched as if it couldn't decide what to do. I finally figured out that the down wing was just generating drag and the plane would try to turn into it. The plane turned, but the wrong direction.

I suppose I could have done some mixing and in effect reversed the rudder controls when flaps were down, but finally just gave up.

Tom was talking about that only when his flaps are down for landing......the flaps (aileron) is already so far down that moving it farther down is useless. SO he uses his differential setting to 100% so only one flap moves up for turning

Yep.

That's exactly what I meant. My normal program (float, thermal) has just a pinch of negative differential. I think I use some "normal" differential in speed mode.

So the turn is actually towards the raised aileron? Mine always seemed to turn to the unmoved flap (drag?)

Maybe I'm deploying the flaps too far. I'll have to check it out.

If my flaps are down much past 45 degrees, turning without rudder is sketchy at best.

I have a flight mode for landing that moves the flaps to about 30-35 degrees down for slow flight, but good turning. To slow beyond that I use the throttle stick to slam the flaps to max, take them full off (30-35degrees position) for turning corrections, and slam on the flaps again when I'm straight.

It's all about knowing the limits and working either within them or around them
