Thanks Kevin.

I finally got my fan balanced up and fitted, and managed to relocate the batteries to the engine bay to solve the CofG issue. It weighs in at 1182g and is thrusting 980g so it will definitely fly!

Happy Anniversary Day to all "Harrier" pilots of the world, really sad day but the good news is, mine is still going strong, had few great flights today in bit windy conditions, video later, enjoy the "roos", Joseph.

Thanks Joe, I'm glad you got to fly your Harrier on 'Harrier day'! I'm off to bed now, but when I get up, I'll be planning my maiden. Hopefully the great British weather will be kind, and the wind will hold off.

Short footage today, not the best weather but enjoy, Joe.

Ok, so my maiden didn't go as well as I'd hoped!
Things I've learned:
1, Don't use soft start on the ESC!
2, Don't let go till the fan has spooled all the way up
I also realised I'd changed the tailplane servo horn to get more movement, but it had also moved the centre point to a slight up trim. Then with the additional trim I added for launch, it proved to be to much. Couple that with the low fan speed and obviously a stall. Thankfully all that broke was one of the strakes from its belly (And my pride!). She's now all fixed up, reprogrammed and ready to fly another day.

ouch thats not good news on the maiden dave , cant see your video either , good news its ready for flight two , good luck
i find with my edf's a nice flat launch into wind is best , let it build up air speed before you input elevator .

It's working, I'm glad it didn't roll over and break Dave, looks like it's well balanced too,
Hope your next try will be successful,
Glenn.

EDIT, I have built my second one but not flown it yet.

Bad luck!. I wouldn't dare to hand launch model after all that work on my own! Gold medal for bravery! Why the hell do you run? You don't need to for any launch, it only makes things go worse.
After all the nice work you have done I can't understand you did not improve on those lousy thrust nozzels, Joe.

Ha ha, I always run, don't know why! I did more or less the same as you with the nozzles, only I made mine from pop bottle plastic and left them clear. I'll post some pics if you like. I'm really glad it didn't roll over too, I think I got off very lightly with that first launch. Wish me luck for the next attempt!

I'm sorry I did not noticed your mods on nozzels, probably as you made them of clear plastic.
But nevertheless, that thing should launch from your hand after light chukk like a feather. I only suggest get someone who knows what he is doing to throw it for you next time.
Last year, RC model shop owner launched for me 70mm Mirage, and while trying to run in his thongs he slipped and launched my plane 45deg. into the ground! He also hurt his hand hitting the ground. It's pointless to run, just give it firm 10deg. up throw. It was total write off!.Joe.

Yes I tried to make the nozzle extensions as 'invisible' as I could. I'll take your advice about throwing it and probably get someone else to do it next time. I had planned for a friend to join me that day and when he called to say he couldn't make it, I just had to try it myself! I'm sorry to hear about your Mirage, but your comment made me giggle a little as 'thongs' are something different in the UK than in Australia
