Road Closings and the path to NEAT

Hiya,

Since many of us are planning on arriving at Peaceful Valley at some point this weekend, I thought this might be an informative discussion thread to share route information.

Coming from Syracuse my usual route leads me down Rt 81 to Rt 17 at Binghamton. While tedious, that route appears to be still viable and the only fly that has just appeared in my ointment is the closing of Rt 30 in East Branch due to high water.

Plotting an alternate route in via Rt 206 all the way through to Downsville (from Rt 81 at Whitney Point) is also not available as of this morning (9/9).

I was originally heading that way tomorrow but my plans may be delayed due to this new flooding at the base of 30.

Anyone else have route info to share?

Chris Z.

According to this site, River Road in Downsville is closed. That's how I usually come in from the highway. Is there an easy way around?

I know everybody's itching to get down there, but would it be wiser to simply delay the trip for a day or two to let the waters recede? According to the link that Tom provided in the main thread, the water will be below flood stage by tomorrow evening.

River RD is NOT rt30. River rd runs parallel to the river on the OTHER side.

use RT 30 even after the water recedes.

Uhh, I do come in on 30, but coming from the West, when I get off of Rt 30, I turn on to River Road to get to Banker Road.

yes, but that is NOT where river rd is closed. The bridge over the river from RT30 to banker rd is fine.

Good to know. I'm not planning on being there until late Wed so I would expect things to be cleared up by then.

Rt 81 North is closed, but surely it's short term. Looks like mud slid onto the highway in the pictures I saw. BTW, from rt 81S, there's a short cut heading SE via back roads to NEAT (you never get onto rt 17), but it's slow going in spots. Rt 81 to 17 is easier, if open, which it will likely be.

If your coming from the West on Rt 17 keep in mind that it is now under water in the areas of Nichols, Owego, and Appalacin. The waters are now receding so expect it to be clear over the weekend.

I was planning on coming down from the Albany area on rt 30. anyone know of route closures along the way?
I'd like to go the scenic route, but this might not be the year for it

The link is not reporting all closures. Local news is reporting that 17 from exit 61 to 67 is currently closed due to flooding.

Fast and getting faster!
88 was closed still around binghamton will be calling DOT tommorow to find out if thats still the case I have to find an alternate route. I usually go 88 to 17 to exit 90 in downsville, I like the highway route, it is longer but its smoother and less up and down, less wear and tear on the truck.

These are just opening up this afternoon.

Route 17 west of Binghamton exits 61 to 67 now open.

Route 88 westbound open to one lane traffic from exit 3 to the 81 exchange. Eastbound in that area remains closed.
