Cox Sky Ranger, Extra 300 / Nine Eagles Sky Eagle Brushless & Spektrum

I just got my Nine Eagles Sky Eagle and Extra 300 today. I must say they are an ideal construction, why more manufacturers do not go with EPP foam I don't know. I think it is the way to go for models like this.

Anyhow, I want to convert them both to Spektrum BNFs. I wonder if anyone has done them before I start. I think they will take a Real RX (without casings) as opposed to the AR6400XXX style. I plan on putting AR6100 style RX's in them with micro Servos and Motors. I think 1811-2000 is the one to go with or an AO5 style. I want to use the stock props as I have a load of them and I like the idea of the prop saver.

So what we need to figure out is What servos to use, and what motor to use, how to mount it and so on.

Any help would be appreciated. I think I will order another couple of airframes for these. and just throw away or sell the electronics. The RX seems a lot more robust than the AR6400XXX but it is a shame it is not DSM or DSM2.

Any help or advice would be appreciated, anyone done it? I have a Nine Eagles RX but that is just too easy... .

27grams. Motor is heavy, 16g, it will get lighter or give leeway for a real RX and micro Servos.

OK. I have removed all the Electronics and motor from the Sky Eagle, I decided to use a 1811-2000.

The nose was cut to gain access, this EPP foam, is GREAT, and there is a lot of meat to play with. After removing the Stock Motor, a custom mount was made using the existing offsets of the stock motor.

I wish I knew what glue they used on this it is flexible but it is like rock as far as hold is concerned.

Here are photos of progress so far.

hey what was the weight of the extra 300 motor and plastic piece that holds it? the extra motor is a n60 and the cessna is a n50. and if you could the wieght of the brick would be helpful

i got a nine eagles sky surfer today from china and flew it, it does great but im thinking of converting to spektrum also using a micro servo and spektrum reciever and just going aileron and elevator but i will use the stock aileron servo as i think it will be lighter then the 3-4g turnigy servos i have. I would go with a 7amp esc and the same enigine you are going to use. im just trying to cut the weight down since the lighter the plane the better the glide ratio.

If i can put spektrum in and brushless and stay the same weight or maybe even a few grams more/less it would be worth it. As of right now i must stall the glider when i get off the motor in order for the folding prop to stop free wheeling and making gliding impossible lol

btw where did u get the anodized 1811-2000

Completed Weight with Ar6000 (No Skins) ESC and Battery is 85 Grams. engine Power is superb. I am using a 10a ESC as that is what I had some weight could be shaved with a 5amp ESC. But there is more than enough power. Balance is good too.
