Battery Discharge Rate Question

How is the battery discharge rate determined? For any pack how can you tell what it is if it is not listed in the spec?

What happens if you draw more amps than the rated discharge for the battery?

Is there is difference in the consequenses for NiCd NiMH and LiPoly?

Thanks,

LT

- There's no magic formula. Many vendors offer suggested ranges (see DMA and BattlePack/Hills, for example), but we still push them. Ask for others' experience.

- Sometimes they go boom. Other times, they just stop working (will not take, or deliver, anywhere near capacity)

- Yes - NiCd usually just vents, NiMH can explode, LiPoly can baloon up and, in rare cases, burn.

I think what we e-modelers do to the batteries would make most battery engineers squirm. As Andy suggests, just rely on the experiences of other eZoners if you wish to avoid damaging your cells.
