Sundancer,

It sounds like they "changed".

So I'm still trying to find out if anyone who has recently purchased a FF from BH got PZ-V2 retracts.

These are the PZ-V2s

I was told that the aluminum retracts were too expensive to make as stock retracts so they decided to make them as a spare upgrade part you can purchase separately if you wish. I've sampled both the PZ-V2's and the new plastic FMS retracts and both are incredibly sturdy, stout and dependable, so I personally don't see the need to upgrade to the aluminums unless out of curiosity.

It depends on who you buy from. Both Raymond and Phillip (PW-RC) have always added their own tweaks to enhance sells. Raymond may be installing the PZ-V2's in his 1700mm P-51s as a nice touch. BUT, I would be surprised if BH would go to such lengths.

I received that FMS quote just yesterday, so that's coming direct from them, I was only quoting what they said.

I got the PZ-V2 retracts from Raymond at RC Castle and the part that is metal is the trunion. The rest of it is plastic. I have yet to install them. They look quite sturdy. The main reason that I got them was due to the reports of the earlier stock ones burning up. So if the latest factory ones are not burning up then it may not be necessary to get the PZ-V2s.

Are the retracts plugged into CH5B or CH5C on the multiconnector?

Thanks,

After 8.5 months I have a FF and I didn't have to undertake a 570 mile Long March to Brisbane to get it! I think its V3; about a 21.5" aluminium main connecting spar with dihedral built in, 5060 KV300 motor, no ribbon cable and retract mounting screws extend about a third of the screw head diameter outside each side the cover.
Hope to assemble this weekend. At least the delay has enabled me to learn a lot about this plane from this great thread.

Thanks Brandon! I knew that I could count on you. Much appreciated. Saves me the trial and error! What is the best replacement for the tape covering the wiring? I am almost there!

Thanks,

Aaron

Great. I have some black electrical tape. Do you need to scuff the surface of the electrical tape to get the paint to stick? I also have some Blenderm that used to help support the flap and rudder hinges.
