These two are the biggest non-commercial/industrial RC planes I've ever read about:

Weighs 20 pounds. Powered with an Astroflight geared 90 cobalt motor, 35 cells and spinning a 18x8 prop.

Sopwith Tabloid with a 13 foot wingspan (at least it will be). Powered by a geared Plettenburg motor, 64 cells and spinning a 36x22 prop. Will be covered with 65 meters of Oratex.

Both of these pictures and info are from the May 2003 issue of Model Aviation magazine.

There was a full size Boeing 707 that was intentionally crashed to study the effects. That must have been the largest RC plane to have ever flown. I saw it on TV many years ago....

Yes, I know you meant amateur built electric planes but I thought it was worth bringing it up. Those who have worked in the aviation industry will have more...

I believe if you include commercial/research projects, the Helios probably takes the prize with a 247' wingspan.

Franz Schmid always builds 'em big:

Here's a view of the motor of his latest creation ( 1/2 scale Klemm 35):

I was in Germany a couple of years ago and picked up an electric R/C magazine that featured a 6.5meter C-130 Galaxy....

How big is kind of a generic question. There are many catagories of big:

Largest span
Longest fuse
Largest wing area
Heaviest, etc.

Tim, that is a very neat data base of large E-models that you linked to.

The large Ho 3 is magnificent!

good point Thomas!
I wonder what the heaviest amatuer model was built?

Does anybody have more info a 1:1 scale 747 RC plane being built? That thing must have been one BEEP of a fun plane to fly!
Musta been sad to crash test it, though. How was it built, powered, weight, etc?
Did they fly it around for kicks, go go directly into the crashing test?

Thanks!

Anyone know what motor, batteries, and prop is being used on the klemm?

I would really like to know the prop and rpm.

Motor= Torcman 685 Geared ?:1
Batteries= 2*30cells ( Sub-c or bigger ?) in parallel
Prop= 30 to 36 inch dia ( pitch around 22?)
RPM : 2500-3500 ?
"Special" High power controller made by Jeti ( 'normal' controllers get "screeching" problems with this much power and 14P LRK motors)

For more info: write the Torcman people or Franz himself ( he has a forum on his website!)
