Discussion Easy Diversity just 15$

Hi, I did buy this easy diversity system from bevrc and I do not know how to run/install it. There is nearly no information on the homepage itself and I was just wondering if anybody has instructions/ a guide on how to solder the rssi wires from a 1.3Ghz bevrc videoreceiver.

Both do the same job... RSSI based diversity. They compare RSSI voltages between 2 RX's and switch to the strongest one. The only difference is the firmware. 15$ is very cheap !! Can be easily done with Arduino with less than 20 lines of code But we still need to know if both systems support those rx's which RSSI voltage is reversed, high=strongest low=weakest.

Another knock off of this one:

And again completely inferior. You MUST USE CIRCULAR POLARIZATION OR IT WILL NOT WORK! It uses RSSI to select the proper RX. RSSI does not account for multipath fading and therefore you need to minimize it's effects.

Also, there is NOTHING easy about this unit.

Better go with EagleTree diversity , a bit more expensive... but PLUG & PLAY !

ET diversity is video based not RSSI... Alex's diversity and tracker works good I've reproduced his system once and have been very satisfied with the results. Now, concerning Arduino, you need to read both RSSI's trough Arduino's analog pins and compare them... I'm working on a tracker that will use RSSI diversity and MAX7456 to display RSSI strength and direction (arrow for right-left for now... i still need to work on the up-down feature) on your groundstation screen/goggles so you can follow the arrow to get your plane right where the RSSI strength is the strongest... Some Arduino or C/C++ programming experience is needed and basic electronic skills (other than MAX7456 breakout). I'll post some pics and source code soon. In the meanwhile, you can check

Easy Diversity

I got my Easy Diversity System today. With it I ordered a Vx (another one I bought at BEVRC was already lying around. First thing I noticed was, that also the two Vx looked the same, they did have a totally different inside.

1st: find the RSSI Pin

2nd: Solder the GROUND and RSSI to the Receiver

This step was a little tricky cause I did not know which spots to solder it onto and the image on the BEVRC page is not in high res. so I had to guess.

Finally I ended up soldering it to the right connectors. Ground is (on the 3sided pins) The first from the Board and RSSI the last, leaving the middle one empty.

To put it all in a nutshell, it is pretty simple and works good as well, switching does not really effect the video image, which is good.

I have been playing with this diversity (well actually the RangeVideo one). It works ok so long as you scale your RSSI's with a potentiometer and buffer them with a capacitor. You also need to use circular polarization on both ends for it to work.

The only problem I can't seem to fix is the latency. it takes about 5 seconds for this unit to switch after the video turns to garbage.

did no one know where the rssi pin is of the rc805 RX ??? Platine number is RC308_110227 Rev:02

I used mini jack sockets for rssi signals (inner is RSSI, outer is GND, middle - leave it blank)
Mine works great
bevrc_diversity.avi (2 min 27 sec)

With Lawmate receivers connect rssi from RX1 to rssi2 input and vice versa.
