Ivan's 42 Corvette
Hello Ivan,
Your Corvette is stunning, beautiful workmanship. Please explain how you did the fly bridge windows. They look perfect from both sides. I have been contemplating how to do mine. I don't want to just glue the window to the inside. I want the window to be set in the frame and nearly flush to the outside and not see the glue. Unlike the cabin windows the fly bridge has to look good inside and out. It looks like yours has a surround molding around the window and then the assembly is attached to the frame????? Thank you for your kind words. OK , let see if i can explain how i did it. You have to excuse me for my english but i will do my best. The white strip around the windows is cut from 2mm plasticard so i get 2x2mm strips. Then i cut the windows so they will fit exactly in the mahogany window frames. Laying the frame on my table (see photo ) and then fit in the window against the table, next i glue the plasticard in place with thin cyano. Be careful with the cyano. The cyano will make both the window and strip to stick to the woodframe ! Here is a link to my Corvette album. https://photos.google.com/share/AF1Q...RDeDR3N1kzMkFB Hope you understand what i mean. Any questions, let me know. Happy building / Ivan |

Calling anyone who has built the 42 Corvette. What size of gap between the cabin sides and the cat walk. I'm thinking 1/64" but wonder if that allows enough for expansion. How about line on line??? Gives the best look.

1/64 is good. For some reason mine ended up .....close
I beveled off the bottom of the mahogany where it drops down....and it slides in and down in place better. I used my Dremel tool with Robart grinder. But, I remade my sides out of 3/32 Mahogany so are thicker. |

Chris Craft Corvette B-15M assembly manual?
Is anyone willing to share the plans for building the Chris Craft Corvette (42') by Sterling? My father has the full kit, but NO assembly instructions. In his 70's now, hoping to fulfill a life goal. He's technology impaired and has asked my to do some digging. Appreciate any help you can give.

This is great news! Let me check with him and get back to you. I know he had what he thought were the assembly instructions only to find it was something else (maybe the drawings). It surprised many of us - including him - because he is meticulous with his possessions.

Slow progress on the 42' Corvette
Still picking away at the build of the Sterling Corvette. The hull and cabin are built up waiting for sanding, fiberglass on hull and cabin roof and deck install. To eliminate gaps I notched out two frames and slotted the sub deck to allow the cabin windshield to sit flush with the deck. Works good. I'll be planking the over the sub deck. I built the fly bridge windshield on a fixture duplicating the actual width required on the boat. Made the glazing look good from the front and rear by doing a black reveal around the edge of the glazing. The fit of the FB windshield to the cabin roof is good but still have some small gaps to correct on the roof (filler). The helm is coming along made a seat and foot rest and still need to add some more detail (radio, fire extinguisher etc.) The transom deck is almost done. need to add upper trim piece (clamped in place). That part is all new wood and made on a fixture to get the right curve. The light mast is mahogany with a light cut off of the original cast fittings. The boarding step is also mahogany.
