I just made ballast for my Oculus.
Its 3 sections of 11/32" brass tubing filled with lead, each 10-5/8" long.
I have 2 spacers made from 5/16" dowel the same length.
These go in the center section spar. The tubes weight just shy of 6oz each, so I can add 6oz, 12oz, or 18oz to the plane.
From my experience in the Spring Fling in Sacramento, the plane can use the forward CG shift in the wind anyway, and the tube is already there.

I will test and report back.

Hi Andrew

I have been using a Airtronics SD10 G sine they came out on the market and it has been good for me. If the radio you are using now has been good for you then stay with it.

That center panel is looking great and the rest of the build should go as smooth as the first part.

Flew a 20 minute flight with two of the three stick of lead, so, 12oz on board last weekend.
Seemed to fly just fine like that. I think that I can safely recommend using the center section carbon tube for a built in ballast tube.

Ok, I have a question and maybe I have spent to long building and reading the threads but here it is.
I have finished the center main wing panel and the out wing / tip panel. I have 2 beveled ribs left over. I believe they go between the center wing C6 and outer wing.

If so, is the just a spacer to fill in the diheaderal gap?

Does this just glue in between both panels?
Do the spar tubes get connected by the angled carbon dihederal connectors?

I may have missed this on the print or the manual.

I have the spent and one main tip panel completed. 30 hours so far. It is a joy to build a nice kit. 1st one for me in 20 years.

Thanks,
Vern

Hi Vern

Merrill was talking to me at one time and he was thinking of setting the angle in the rib for the dihedral breaks. right now Merrill is at the fall fest in visalia so he won't be able to answer till monday.

yep, i am sure that is what I have. Just concerned, if it fits in between the center and main/tip panel and glued up.

Also a ? on the balsa tips. I have not seen a closeup photo of a finished one.
I would think the 2 tips glue together and add a 1/4 in balsa sheet over th entire thing, drill lightening holes to match and sand to match the rib airfoil. Am I right on this one?
thanks,
vern

Hi Vern

It sounds like you have the concept on the tips, here are two pics I can show you.
on Oculus # 2. I was building without instructions and it was only the second one being built so do what you feel that matches what you want.
