Hokusei 40-in EPP SBach 342 (Video)

Hokusei released their scale verison of EPP SBach 342. It employs the same construction as that of their Cap 232 SC and Extra 260 SC. The plane seems to have very nice flying characteristics. Take a look at the video: the designer/pilot (Mr. Ikeda) has a total control of his little SBach!

バギーコースでSbach342をフライト! Hokusei Model Sbach342 EPP SC (2 min 55 sec)

Hope that you enjoyed the terrific 3D flying!

I keep looking at this bird, but haven't pulled the trigger yet, mainly because nobody has posted any videos or a flight report, and I don't want to be the guinea pig....

Looks like this is the airframe only for the same price as the others that are arf. But the others require new servos and hinges, weigh twice as much and have cheap esc's...

half way through build

I took a gamble and purchased one. I am half way through the build and being my first foam "scale" am taking my time. So far I am very happy with the quality and it is easy to assemble. All instructions are in Japanese but all the important measurements are clearly overlayed on the pictures. I will be using the recommended dual sky xm2834 980kv motor. Starting on 10x4.7sf and 1000mah 3s lipo o until I get used to it then will probably go to 11x4.7 and lighter battery.
Cheers

not ready yet

Hi, I have not flown it yet, a few more little jobs and waiting on a 2.4ghz light receiver.may program up on my FM if I can't wait, but weather is supposed to bad here for the next week

Motor draws 19amps on 10x4.7 wot which is below the 24amp burst Max.(15s) on 3s lipos

Cheers

What servos would be good for a plane this size? I was looking at Hobbypartz solar series.

Not familiar with those. I am using hitec feather hs55, mainly cause I had them and the hxt900 need too much ply shaved for my liking to get them to fit. The horns are quite long17mm which means the servo arms are at the furthest point on the longest arm 26mm to get 45deg throw just hope they are up to it!

So size-wise the hs55 8 gram servos fit pretty well? And it takes 4 of the same size? These are the ones I'm thinking about. 1 gram heavier but about the same dimensions, digital, metal geared, centers well, ball bearings, fast and over 30 oz/in of torque. I also wonder how the Omega 72g motor would work on this plane. Overkill on power and I'd need a bigger esc but it only weighs 2 grams more than the recommended Dual Sky xm2834 980kv motor but with 165 more watts.
