Reichard Magic 2m E-glider ARF

I just started the build of my Reichard Magic. So far I have one suggestion to others that may build this sailplane. I would suggest that you mount the wing first, not the horizontal stab. Thus the wing can be mounted and adjusted very square to the fuselage. Now, when mounting the horizontal stab, attach it to the mounting plate before installing the plate. Then glue the assembly to the fuselage and adjust the stab to be parallel to the wing before the glue sets.

I just ordered one too. A build log or a few photos would be great. I like to build it in my head first.

This new sailplane looks to be a real thermal machine. If the specs are correct with an AUW of 17 oz for a 2m it should be a real floater. I can't wait to see how it flies.

Have you picked out your motor ? I think this should be great on nice calm summer nights.

I was thinking a hacker A20-22L. I have used this in a 60in glider and it's a real powerhouse.

It has the same fuse as the Maxx, so it uses a 34mm spinner.

This weekend I almost finished "building" my MAGIC - since there are only a few parts to assemble, it really was fun

The parameters and construction of the MAGIC is very similar to its predecessor MAXX, which was already described on RCG:

https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...1366348&page=9

IMO these enhancements are very successful - especially I like the spring loaded rudder and elevator, which are smooth-running and naturally free of play.

Originally I intended to use the motor-setup I already use in my Reichard Alka 15 (Robbe Roxxy 2834-12, Roxxy BL Control 820 and 2s1000mAh LiPo on AeroCAM 13x8 with alu spinner). With this Drive-Setup (130g) the AUW was 550g and the COG was 68mm behind the leading edge. Since the manual recommends the COG at 70-75mm I thought about changing to Hacker 20-20L or 20-22L. I'm happy to read, that this seems to be a good match

So I calculated some mot-prop-configurations with drive calculator 3.4 for Hacker-20-20L/22L and AeroCAM 12x6,5 up to 13x8 and now I'm indecisive, since my calculations were quite inconsistent
  • Hacker A20-20L on 12x6,5 AeroCAM: 685g static thrust at 13,13A
  • Hacker A20-22L on 13x8 AeroCAM: 755g static thrust at 16,66A
  • Hacker A20-22L on 12x6,5 AeroCAM: 597g static thrust at 10,23A
  • Hacker A20-22L on 13x6,5 AeroCarbon: 782g (!) static thrust at 10,86A - too good to be true
  • Hacker A20-22L on 13x8 AeroCAM: 651g static thrust at 12,77A

Which mot-prop-configuration are you going to use ?

I'm going with a 10x6 on a 1000mah 3s lipo. On a 2s you could go bigger. I usually start out with the recommed prop range and then test it out on an amp meter. It's not going to take that much power. Remember it's only 17 oz.
keep it light.
