Looking for a new better, stronger, quicker replacement than the 5245.
The Savox are working good in the 48 Edge, only 9-10 flights so far though.
Great save!

High voltage:

Hitec 7245 - fast, bulleproof, strong.
Futaba S9070 - so far they have been bulletproof, insane power (probably a bit more than the 7245), slightly better centering/resolution than the 7245.
JR 3711 - I haven't run them but they look really nice. My friend reports the same type of performance as the S9070's...great power and centering but not quite as quick as the Hitecs. I think I will try them in the 60" Laser.

6V:

Airtronics 94820: bulletproof, plenty of power, great centering and resolution, slow.

Hello all, man trying to figure out which plane to buy next is difficult these days so many good ones to choose from. Looking at either a 59 slick or a EF60 extra or edge. I have been doing some reading and still am searching for the difference between the EF edge and extra. Many thanks for any help

There are a lot of good options out there for sure!

The Edge and Extra are different but both are capable of great precision and great 3D. The Extra feels a little bit more "immediate" in its control reactions...it responds very quickly and precisely. It can be a bit surprising when you fist fly it until you realize that the plane is not hard to fly and has no bad habits at all. It's very capable of every 3D maneuver and has zero wing rock in harrier. The Edge is different. It feels more sedate and gentle, and gives you a little bit more time to think and react. It's one of the easiest planes to 3D out there. If you go to low rates and step up the speed a little bit it will hang with the best of them in precision flight as well.

The 59" Slick is also a great plane and similar in control feel to the Extra. However, I find that the longer tail moment of the Extra makes for cleaner snaps and tracking is a little bit better. Most of the 59" Slicks that I flew were underpowered though so it's difficult to make a good judgement for certain. I do know that I love my Extra and would recommend it to anybody.

I am also inerested in Futaba S9070, but the dimensions are different from that of Hitec 5245/7245. how did you modify the servo bays?

You need to enlarge the holes a little bit. The servo is a bit wider and longer but it is shorter. I used an X-acto with a few sharp blades and a bit of patience. There are some pictures in the MXS build thread: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show....php?t=1738825

I own the Extra but was able to fly the Edge about ten times. The Edge is actually better at certain tumbles than the extra, and it was a little easier with some 3D but not much. The Extra is more aggressive in high speed precision. The Extra is my preference, but they're both great airplanes.

Thanks Cody!!
I plan on going HV shortly. Looks like it's going to be 7245s all around.

The 5245s worked great. The Extra being my first real balsa plane they've held up pretty good. I played around with with end points, happened on my 2nd flight after adjustment so who knows. I don't think I set the servos too far out but I may have...then again it may have just worn out.

Trying to save a bit of coinage for a 30%. Got a 48" Edge and I throw the 60" around just as low as the 48" so I'm leaning towards a larger aircraft.

No problem! If you are on a budget and want a bigger plane, the 78" Extra flies better than most 50cc planes on the market.

This really depends on your flying style and skill. They extra tracks better than the edge and snaps more cleanly, but it is noticeably more difficult to pull of certain 3d with. The edge is like a 3d trainer, very smooth, slow, and rock solid in harrier. If you are a very experienced pilot, you can't go wrong with either one, but the extra will probably be more of a broad spectrum aircraft than the edge would. I'm intermediate and I owned both the edge and the extra and hands down I preferred the edge! The same goes for the slicks, the 59 flies more like an extra, the others 3d much better. My 51" and 71" slicks are two of my all time favorites, but the 59 I wasn't a fan of at all... Just my personal opinion being a hardcore 3d intermediate pilot!

I have the Extra, and the Edge, and the MXS. I don't regret buying the Extra first. Great plane. As is the MXS. I haven't flown the Edge yet.

I think you'll find the Edge to be easier and more floaty than the other two.

I put a Turnigy Sk3 5045 450KV motor on my EF Extra 300. with Xoar 16X8 on 6S, it only draws 52 amp, around 1200W. There is a review saying the actual kv of the motor is probably lower than 450. and the motor is rated as 7s on HK website.

Has anybody tried 7S setup with this motor? I have some matching 4S and 3S lipo sitting around. I think I am gonna upgrade my ESC first then give it a try.it's so tempting! may have to downprop to 15X8 though.

the extra is just so much better than the edge, imho.
set it up light and she is as high-alpha as you want.
