I used stand-offs to fit the Motrofly 4315 714kv onto the Extra EXP. In the future, I want to go with the 480kv when it is back in stock. I'm about to fit the canopy onto the fuse and would like to know what the gap should be between the spinner backplate and the cowling so as to fit the current 714kv and the future 480kv. Thanks.

Here is the Extra at the park just after sunrise. It was a beautiful time to fly in Phoenix!

ok, lol, after the use of many different servos in the extra i would like to share my opinion.
graupner des 678 : felt slow and weak.....usuable but no feeling for it savöx sh 1250 : starts to blow back at half of the speed already, and going to full speed its basicly dead.....unuseable hs 5245 : good servo overall futaba bls 551 : very good servo overall futaba sb9070 : the end of search....heaven i did install the sb9070 only at the aileron so far and run them at 6v only at the moment (still the hs 5245 in the tail). i do love the extra60, the only concern so far was that she was overrotating. i spent many moments wondering whether it was me or the extra or the holding torque of the servo around zero. well, after a while i was sure it was me, because after i started to learn the timing of the extra60 during snap maneuvers it worked quiet ok. not always but the longer the better. well, all that hassle about timing has stopped by the moment of the use of sb9070 in the ailerons. with this servos it flys just exactely how it should. overall, whaterver the flying was about, the win of stability was enormous. a few weeks back i asked here what mixes you are using. i asked this, because i felt it could do with something but couldnt figure ou what. however, the 9070 fixes that problem too, the extra does ke nailed on rails. can a simple aileronservo change of hs 5245 to fut9070 (almost same specification) do such a difference? well, basicly its not a difference, its that they all dont do it and one does it. in a few days i will also run 9070 in the tail and in a few weeks i will program the esc to 7,5v. i think it will be from public interest that extreme flight makes a test and compare the futaba and hs and jr hv servos. |

Got up at the crack of dawn and flew the Extra. Here are a few shots of the glorious Arizona sunrise!

Nice snaps buzzed!!! Sharp!
Len, Sounds like you had a bad servo. I've run into this before. With a 225 on my old 58" extra. Everything checked out, but Somthing wasn't right. After swapping out one aileron servo at a time(new 225), the plane felt "Dailed in". The servo seemed 100%, but I believe the motor, and potentiometer were replaced when servicing. Quote:
Glad you got it sorted out.. Not sure if you noticed, but Chris(extreme flight) was just on the thread giving servo advice. They have done thousands of hours testing servos, and the end result is that the 5245mg is the most affordable and reliable servo for the application. If money is no object? JR, or Hitecs new hv servos are the go to servo, but they are $100 each! I believe this info has been posted by EF many times. I would never want any one to think there plane is not setup properly. For those of you that have Hitec 5245's, they have served many of us well for hundreds of aggressive flights, and multiple seasons! With no issue. |

I just picked up the new Canon SX 260HS. It's easier to transport than my big digital SLR and it takes superb photos.
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consum...rshot_sx260_hs I bought mine at BestBuy. |

I flew four more batteries through the Extra 300 EXP yesterday. Was flying low harriers, tight. The wing rock was improved by adding more expo on my ailerons. Also, I noticed that the wing rock almost disappeared either with my practice as the day progressed, or as the wind subsided, or both. I'm using two pretty new HS5245 MGs. But I've been doing high speed walls with the spoileron mix mentioned in the manual...wonder if I'm abusing them. Another factor is there is a little slop in one of the wings...need to tighten the wing post mounting holes. Or it could all just be me. Still love the plane.

I am now using 75. I think I had it on 65. 65 was fine until I increased the end points from 100 or so to 125.
I noticed on the MXS that I needed less expo than the manual suggested, too. My biggest problem is I have three planes I'm flying 3D right now, and they all enter KE spins differently. I switch to let the motors cool down and that makes matters worse. I flew 23 batteries on Sunday. But at least I'm getting to the point where I can recognize the effect of expo and adjust it in the right direction. I'll try to upload a video of the extra with rocking harriers. I think the wind plays a factor, as does switching back and forth. But I'm not rocking the 48 MXS or the 48 SV nearly as much. And I can get the extra to not wing rock, so it is probably just newb pilot training. |
