Build Log

Riva Corsaro, Classic Italian Wood

Ok, Its not quite a build log........

I'm not known for the details and finishing a boat after I get it running so this my solution

But I do need to put running gear in her, Its a much better build quality than the standard E-Bay fare, proper ply frames and epoxy coated interior.
The Running gear install will be a little way off as ..... well you know ....funds.

Got it in the front door and my wife's reaction was a little surprising, she started cleaning it to make it sparkle and said it could be on display.... inside the house

I am quite chuffed......

Cheers

Turnigy L3020B-600 Brushless Motor 800w.. $17.59

Hobbyking SS Boat Series 125A ESC $29.77

Digital BB/Coreless Mini Servo .. $6.77

I'm going to order this gear to power her, based on 6 cell Li-po for power.

I have a 3 blade 50 mm prop and am expecting about 30 amps at full throttle

Hi Nick.
Beautiful boat. Where did you get it? As you know, I like fitting these type of boats out with power.
As for the Hobbyking SS series of ESC, if you haven't ordered it yet then I would advise you not to.
Over the last couple of months I've seen more than a few of them fail at our club & read about more on the forums.
Everything from just not working straight out of the box, to failing on the first run, to not accepting programming, to burning up on initial plug in.
A club member gave me one to try & fix that won't accept program or run. I've tried everything & can't get it to work.
Just last Saturday a guy turned up at the club with a brand new Genisis Cat & the ESC caught fire before he even got it to the water. Total meltdown.
Just trying to help.
Paul.

Hi Paul,
The Boat comes from John Darke

I will take on board that info on the ESC, lucky I need to save a bit more to pull the trigger on the stuff, knowing HK they will be out of stock when I'm ready

Well I pulled the trigger (at my wife's insistence, what a woman ) on the motive power,

I changed the motor to a 480Kv,
Turnigy L3040A-480G Brushless Motor
13000 RPM would have been a little too much I think.
I splashed out on the 80 AMP HV ESC, This ESC may end up as a pair in the Kingfisher as well

Haven't been into my boat much with the turmoil of job hunting etc, but I did make it to the Triple S day and threw the Corsero in the water for an Amp test, 55 mm prop on 22.6 volts only draws 20 amps, I thought it would be closer to 35 amps. The torque may be a problem with the big prop, I could feel it trying to turn the boat over.

I couldn't run it as I accidentally plugged the receiver battery in backwards and fried the rudder servo, never blown a servo like this before so it appears digital servos are susceptible to clumsy fingers

I have run the Corsero twice now and am having a problem, the spray sticks to the hull and soaks the cockpit and makes its way into the hatch, after 10- -20 minutes running the motor is half deep in water Does anyone have any info on wether spray rails or chines were fitted to these boats, Oh an I definitely need a smaller prop, anything over half throttle and the boat is very unladylike in her behaviour

Lovely boat!....

First RTR of a Riva I've seen that allows access to fit a rudder tube.

I looked up John Darke, as I hadn't heard of him, and find that he is a Model Boat dealer in Brisbane. Google provided lots of links to "shop search/location sites" but no reference to a website. Do you guys know if there is one for this shop?...

Back to the boat, Is it a "Vietnam" special and how much does it retail for?..

Many Thanks

Alan (UK)

PS My first post..Just finished Revell Cornflower Corvette, currently building Nautical Marines' Dark Bitter and own Caldercraft Milford Star and I'm very keen to get hold of a decent RTR Riva.
