New launch method - OneWinch

We've developed a highly portable (5 lb) launch system that offers advantages over both hi-start and electric winch. Some who were at the 2011 soaring NATS in Muncie saw it work. It's what we use for all our planes, HLG through Unlimited sizes.

Our site at the link below includes a video. Enjoy.

Some key videos on Youtube:
Launch Demo
Retrieve
Lawn Mower Power

Below are some links to specific posts in this growing thread. These links should take you straight to pertinent points of the discussion.

Post 27 states basic mechanical concept.

Post 36 asks about a rougher field surface.
Post 38 asks about the bearings.
42-44 discuss launch control and experience.

Storage ?

I'm intreagued but, I'd hate to have to wind all that line up on the little spool shown. I think it needs a cool reel / storage unit of some kind.

Just my 2 cents

Seems promising, but a tad on the expensive side for what is included in the kit. I'm hoping that increased production will lead to a decrease in manufacturing costs and eventually a reduction in consumer costs. I'll be keeping an eye on this one for sure.

I would be interested to see a video showing how (and how long it takes) to set up...

You can buy nice storage reels for about 6 bucks at Home Depot. I use them for my bungees.

I think the site shows an adapter to use a cordless drill to rewind the spool.

Good idea and simple. Definitely a good idea to have the protector. I have seen the results of a snapped bungee on a football training device. The man was out for two weeks recovering. Although he could sing soprano.

I purchased one of these at the Nats. It looks to be well thought out and nicely executed. I saw a few launches made and it does indeed work. It looks like it will be great for smaller planes, I'm not sure it's up to providing a hard launch for unlimited class planes. We'll see soon.

It will be a while until I get time to try it out, but after I try it I'll post my impressions.

We look forward to the review. Question for you. While watching the operation of the system in Muncie, how well did the quick release belt work. Its hard to tell from the online video.
