11.1v low voltage cutoff?

I've never had to set LVC on my helis, they all tell me when they are reaching the point where it'a time to quit, one way or another. With the nimh battery in my Stampede, it just gets real slow. I'm guessing that's not a good idea with an 11.1v 5000 mah lipo in my Stampede. If my calculations are correct, it should be 9.6 - 10.2 volts. So what would you set it at?

Update:
Nevermind, I think it will overheat way before that. It's quite fast though.

I believe your min suggested voltage for LiPo's is 3v per cell. An 11.1v LiPo is a 3s (3.7v per cell), so thats 9v min voltage. If you go too far below that, you permanently damage the LiPo battery. 3v per cell is what I've consistently seen. If the voltage drops too low, then the cell undergoes a chemical change that can not be reversed destroying the battery.

If your overheating the battery, you might have a battery with too low of a C rating. The C along with the mAh rating tells you how much current your battery can pull safely. A 5000mAh battery with a 20C can pull 100A or something. Depending on how much load is on your system, you may be exceeding the capabilities of your battery.

I always thought it was 3.2 - 3.4 volts per cell. My concern is that RC cars seem to have much different power delivery than helis. The battery doesn't even get warm. But, the motor and ESC sure do. I'm running a 30c battery.

3v/cell is slowly getting recognized in surface RC as too low of a lvc to make the lipos live up to their cycle potential. What you need to follow is the 80% guideline - set your lvc such that you don't use more than 80% of the lipos capacity. Mine are set at 3.4 to 3.5v/cell.
