JIm,

I think I may have spotted your problem -- the pointy end is supposed to go first when you launch a DLG .

Bring it along with you to Texas and we'll see if we can't find you a REAL thermal.

People keep pointing that out to me! This is a very unique canard DLG plane - not really but how cool would that be?! Went back out at lunch and caught a couple of good ones. I haven't "specked" her out yet but I'm learning how to level off from a throw without loosing much altitude. I think I'm learning to fly in a thermal and keep my speed up and how to hunt for thermals. Until someone that knows what they are doing watches me I'm really just guessing but I'm having a ton of fun!

Jim: Another rather interesting and unique thing about DLG is that the planes we fly aren't really models. That is, they aren't meant to represent/mimic any kind of full scale aircraft. They are what they are...which is really a piece of sporting equipment that lets you vicariously join in with the natural soaring community! If you see raptors or gulls soaring high and upwind of you, with experience you will have a good shot at getting right up there with them--our DLG's can soar with the best of them!

I got to fly a DLG for the first time this weekend and it was incredible! Decided to sell the gear I had been collecting for my 70" Slick and order a nice DLG

Once you get hooked on DLG, though, there's no going back. Drilling holes in the sky with a power plane will just seem boring...sort of like watching traffic.

I have been out almost everyday now trying to perfect my throw, my thermal hunting and keeping the thing in the air. I really love the fact that all I need is my plane and RX. My battery stays charged for days. When I decided I wanted to try it I was afraid it would not meet my expectations but it has x2!

That's the great thing about dlg, is the ability to practice without alot of equipment in a ball-field sized area. Finding the lift consistently is the primary challenge and goal. Once you fly a contest, where you are forced to find lift, it opens a whole new world, and changes your practice sessions forever.

Jim I just learned/saw what a DLG was 5min ago and I'm hooked. I don't know where to start. I've got a lot of research to do. I will be waiting patiently for your DLG podcast. Keep up the great work sir!

Hey, Jim... I wanted to post here to let you know that you are responsible for me getting into DLG flying. Actually, I've had a passing interest in it for a couple of years now but was apprehensive about getting one. They are a little expensive and I wasn't sure I wouldn't get bored with it. When I saw a 3D guy like you getting into it and being excited about it, those worries went away. I bought a used Taboo GT off of a fellow RCG member and should get it in a few days.

I'll be closely following this blog as I'll be right behind you on the learning curve. I'm going to que up the podcast while I work on a side job this afternoon.

So, thanks and good luck with the DLG flying.

That's great! I am also writing a magazine story for my column "Born to Fly" in the AMA magazine about DLG. I will be interviewing Bruce Davidson, the founder of the DLG event called "The Bruce". That should be out in a few months.
