Thanks for the clarification. Crash's comment is right on the mark. As you are able to get more time on the water you skills will improve. When you can get your boat to make runs across the pond or lake in winds like those in the videos without the radical boat movements, you'll know you have developed your sailing skills to a point where you are getting the most out of your boat.
Go show!

Robert,
I am sorry to say I don't. I have pictures of both of the Yamaha race boats but no videos. Remember these boats were raced back in the mid 90's so Youtube wasn't as much of a factor then as it is now. But there should be some - I'll take a look to see what I can find.
I posted some pictures of the 2nd boat that was built for the team to practice on. It was raced in the same race by an all female crew! Little known information. Some of the pictures below show the 2nd boat now in Europe. The original boat is in Newport Beach harbor owned by a very wealthy Doctor and at my last investigation was still active.

I've got some video of the original...its buried in about an hours worth of sailing coverage from the actual around the world race in the 90's...but its in there on several occasions.

I'll post a link later tonight.

Ok, here is a link to the official film/video of the race worth watching. You will get a few peeks of the Yamaha - This race had some controversy at the time having to do with two different classes of boats. The smaller W60's had to race against larger "Maxi's" boats. Very interesting stuff.
First mention and sighting is a 6:13 into the video - watch for the Yamaha - she has a blue spinnaker with the Yamaha in white letters.
The commentators make mention of her speed and several of the other Bruce Farr designed boats as well.

The individuals that race in these conditions are without a doubt the best sailors on the planet. They are all courageous beyond explanation and crazy at the same time!

If you guys can find a copy of "Fastnet Force 10" by John Rousmaniere (A Norton Nautical Book) I highly recommend reading it. Hard to put it down! A chilling account of tragedy and heroism of a great storm and the death of 15 men in an Ocean Race in the Iris Sea. An amazing story, and true!
The more I learn about this sport the more I like my Yamaha. The truth is this scale is about as much as I can handle! I am going to have to leave the deep ocean racing to those guys in the videos.

Our local news station had some of their reporters out in the marina doing this last week. Totally cool! What a great idea. Can you image what a dolphin or whale would think if they saw people doing this?
