Will do, I should see him Saturday unless we get the snow they're calling for Friday :-/

Sorry I don't remember specifics on the retracts.

Have you ever taken the cowl off? What holds it on?

There are screws, one on each side, like wood screws that go in from the sides. They are hard to see, the holes are probably through the stickers, or maybe under the stickers if it came to you with the cowl already on. Once the two screws are out, the cowl just pulls off easily, forward. Then after the cowl is off, the foam radial engine piece just pulls out the front, tight fit.

Thank you....my engine is 'lose' and I checked the four motor mounts (with the cowl on) and they were tight so somewhere back there something is giving!

I'm using the HK 514 retracts, these two links below will give you info on what I did to retrofit. They are larger and stronger than stock, but not a drop in fit.

If I was doing it over again, I might get these even larger PZ-V2 (716) retracts because they move real slow and scale. They are $20 each though and even more work to retrofit. https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...&postcount=420

That's exactly the same that happened to mine. I bought the 716s as Crashmaster mentioned and you can see them in these posts. They work very well and seem strong and slow.

Ham, maybe it is because I love AC-DC, but I think that video in post 519 is GREAT. Love the switching between two views of the same part of flight, too cool. Those fat rubber tires and slow retracts are neat. My soft 4" foam wheels work well, but don't look nearly as cool. Keep the videos comin!

Does anyone have the same situation as I do: The motor seems to flex when I try to move it; removed the cowl; 4 screws are tight; firewall isn't broken; should I be concerned?

I guess it depends how much you are talking about. It is a long shaft attached to foam so while it doesnt droop, if you grab the end of the spinner there is a bit of "give" even after re-expoying my firewall.

When i was setting up the flaps i set up another switch to give me a "combat flap" setting with around 12* for flaps just for scale shits and giggles. Be interesting to see how it makes the plane fly and whether i end up ripping the flaps off trying to do turns with them down lol. I also tired to set up scale looking flap angles, so again it will be interesting to see how it flies with full landing flaps out. Unfortuantely there are massive wind and rain storms around at the moment, so i'm just finishing three models i have on the go atm.

I was just reading back and saw some comments on CG and i maidened mine at 105mm as per manual and it was not nice! Is the general concensus 95mm for the correct CG.

After reading Greg's posts i might try 4 x 4S 2200s too. 4S 2200 seems to be a good size to invest in.

I flew the P-47 yesterday and got an unpleasant surprise flying it in windy and gusty conditions - it was the hardest plane to control despite being the biggest. The wings were rocking back and forth like a pendulum.

I think it's because it also has the lowest wing loading, and could benefit from heavier batteries.
Here's the video. Seeing the hard landings made me cringe

takeoffs, landings and crashes - Durafly P-51, Starmax 70mm F-86, 1.6m P-47, 50mm SU-34 (7 min 14 sec)
