Tank Hobby Radio / Transmitter Ideas, Tips, Tricks

This thread is dedicated to using a hobby radio/transmitter for RC tanks and sharing ideas, tips and tricks to improve performance or promote ease of use.

For example:
I am using a Hitec Aurora 9 for my Tamiya Super Sherman and a stock 27mhz radio for my HL Walker Bulldog. The Aurora 9 enables me to change to Mode 3 and thus the stick movements match for both my Tamiya Sherman and the HL Bulldog.

Very easy on the A9 to change Modes to go back to RC planes.

If any of you tankers are using Spektrum, Futaba or other transmitters with switches or sliders please share your tips with us.

I have an older HL Lepard tank . Ok on this one no problems but I would like to change it over to speckrum so how do I go about doing it . MY tank has none of the extras no sound or smoke and she runs good. BUT it would be nice to change it compleatly over so has any one done this in the pass. Thankyou for starting this thread some of us may learn from others DON THE Rustbucket

I met you at the Military Vehicles Collectors Club of Oregon (MVCCO) living history day at Camp Withycombe in Clackamas
on May 21st. Any chance you'll be at "Wings Over Keizer" on the 23rd?

My TXR used to be a DX6i, but I am now using an Aurora 9. I never used the DX6i for tanks, but looking into the Spektrum TXR, the following links may help converting tank to a hobby radio.

http://www.rctankwars.com/pdf/tankmodul_english.pdf

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10.../anchor/tm.htm

http://www.holtcraft.com/tip_dx6i.php

The attached PDF files may also help.

FYI, I can email anyone converting an Aurora 9 to a tank TXR a "Set" file you can upload to the A9 that will give you a huge jump on the process.

Any attempt to run an HL with a different radio, Spektrum, etc..requires a change in the electronics package. The least expensive route I'm aware of without a complete replacement of the electronics is a DBCRC2 ($125) available from Phil at RCTankwars.com. It allows you to use a hobby grade radio and receiver with the HL electronics--also provides a Tamiya compatible IR battle system.

ElMod is an excellent choice, but is more expensive (@$270). It is a complete replacement for the HL package that allows for customizing sounds, etc...this also avaiable from Phil.

Hitec Aurora 9 "Set" Files

FYI, my blog now has the Aurora 9 "Set" up files for 1/16 IR Heng Long and Tamiya RC tanks.

As Aurora 9 users are well aware these files can be loaded into the A9 TXR with the aid of the HPP-22 Interface.
