next step is the native radio module replacement. you should remember that this module was designed to be "permanent", what is tricky to use.
first, i cutted out the antenna wire to remove the antenna and the module box from the transmitter. the transmitter with no antenna looks so ugly, so i used the original antena the radio as a dummy antenna. here you can see what i done:

the dummy antenna allow the real antenna to work properly, with no interference from the metal inside the disconnected antenna. dummy antenna is just a piece of hollow plastic and rubber.

installing the new radio module was very easy. nice and perfect fit. also bought on hobbyking a 5dB long range antenna, that will replace the original 2dB.

hey queston so why have you done this?

i have the x9 and i dont get why some ppl do this

is it coz of better range or recver options??

sorry for the nube queston im new and have no need to change anything on mine as i still cant get my axn to stay in the sky for over 15 seconds (not joke real flight time)

and was kind of hoping that if i did get better then instead of buying a new 1 straght away i can upgrade slowly

thanks

Hi Monit111. when i bought this radio and tested, found some glitching problems on throttle channel. plus, stock module range is about 1Km. Fr sky module with stock antenna range is 1.5km, but found some reports where the planes fly about 3km from the transmitter without problems. also, bought a 5db antenna, that increases the range.
main reason to buy this module is the telemetry feedback. it returns from the plane two analog signals and a rs232 9600baud signal to the transmitter, ideal for gps or microcontroller uses.

as you can see on forums, stock module works fine but there are some others that works better, like corona modules or FrSky.
turnigy native doesn't have a real range test, or failsafe!!!!

FrSky 2.4GHz spread spectrum RC review (6 min 55 sec)

The DIY Telemetry project for the FrSky 2.4GHz RC system (6 min 53 sec)

also, i will use the native module too, for my foamies or experiments...
Frsky recievers are cheap, but not so much like turnigy ones, so, turnigy module will work like a b plan.

Mauricio

thank you very much makes sence at this stage i can only dream of reaching 500 metres let alone 1.5 km but its nice to know that the x9 can be of use for a long time.

im interested in the fpv and have bought the aero master by aero naut and am working to get that to be a top f the range fpv with a auto pilot osd. so then the frysky module will be needed.

thank you veruy much very helpfull if this was hobby king i would give you 20 cent lol

I got two 9x. One for my glow fuel planes which I changed the module to FrSky and the other one I left default for my small electric planes.

You might want to put er9x on your radio to get the full advantage of telemetry. It will require more modifying of the radio (which I have yet to do because I lack good soldering skills) but I've heard its worth it.

Main reason I changed the module to FrSky was to get failsafe as I am planning on flying a giant scale airplane.

Hi purcilas.
Yeah, i know that er9x firm works better than original. i've soldering and programmings skills, but have no time to make that modification. somebody here sells the service to reboot the radio for about 20 bucks, so i will think about it.
i'll use telemetry not in radio, ill conenct the radio to my laptop, and use Labview or matlab to generate the osd (for fpv flying), and show the telemetry data.
Frsky failsafe is awesome, and a must for every rc plane!, one reason for the mod of my radio.

Thanks monit111. your stock 9x will work for a while, but, if you're planning to get into fpv your should change the radio module, because the lack of failsafe or range test on the original one.
good luck with your project!

frsky and stock rx

Hi all, recently I upgraded my 9x to frsky DHT. Is it possible to operate both frsky and stock through a flip switch? Is it OK if I install a 3-way toggle switch and toggle the vcc (red cable) only to switch between these two systems so that I could use my stock RX (soo many of them )? Please help

This thread is dead most probably but is there a way to have the both modules in the 9x and use a 3 way switch to switch between them when ever i want to...i know i will have to use a common antenna for both the module but any bright elegant solutions will be welcome....

I got some response on the same here: Most of te Frsky Gurus are there

https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show....php?t=1176328

And I dont think using a single antenna for both modules is a good idea. I have installed the DHT module, modified the stock Turnigy module by mounting the stock antenna on the module itself.
