Question

How do you run the prop shaft through the hull

I am starting to build an RC boat, and I have been wondering about this. I have heard talk of a 'stuffing box'. What is that? Any pics?

Thanks, Zane

A stuffing box is a chamber through which a shaft passes that is 'packed' with a material to stop liquid traveling through the box while still allowing the shaft to turn freely. Models use a stuffing tube consisting of a brass tube, bushed at both ends to the diameter of the shaft, that can be filled with grease or oil.

I am a member of both these boards, both are great for different reasons. WMU has how-to's that we do not on this board, although this board is much much more active.
http://wmunderway.8m.com/cont/shaft/shaft.htm here is shafts/stuffing boxes
and here is the page for their construction tips http://wmunderway.8m.com/cont/cont.htm. Hope this helps, once you get some more specific questions either post on this thread or start a new one and you will get all the answers you will ever need.

stuffing tube

I just remembered ;go to google and type in rc stuffing tube. Now it shows a Mutineer boat of which i still have 2 in prime shape. Now it shows steps and pictures. Pictures of your boat kind of shows a solid shaft from motor to transom. The Mutineer is using flex cable with loner to stop water entering up the stuffing tube.
