I'm curious how you feel your Dolphin measures up against the others.

Could you comment on the HK Dolphin? Seems like it would be a good car trunk any-time flier. Is it the heavy wing loading that holds it back?

Hi Jim! The Dolphin Micro Sport although characterized as a "glider" but it does not soar very well at all, at least mine will not maintain any altitude without a decent level of forward speed/throttle. It's performance makes it more just a very small electric sport plane. However the only slightly larger HK Vector 850 does actually soar like a glider and has very good no throttle performance with it's more favorable wing loading. The Vector 850 was recently added to the HK USA warehouse:

EasySky Sport Plane (Dolphin Glider) Mod

The Dolphin sport plane needs to be modded slightly to improve its gliding performance, but even then it's just not really a glider, even with a lighter 370 lipo. The mod does allow it to fly quite low throttle though, about one-third. Check out my video.

Unfortunately Bridgesky seems to be a fairly new brand and only sold by Hobby King, but so far they seem to turn out some nice models! Both the Vector 850 and the Solo 1500 are very good values with good design and quality for the price. Are you still looking for replacement V-Tails for your Solo 1500?

Nah, I built a new nose from scrap foam today and plan to put the spare (conventional) tail on just to get it back in the air... Hopefully all of the FPV gear survived the week-long dirtnap

I don't think they are pricey considered that they are individually cnc milled aluminum parts, not cheap cast plastic. I have a couple of his motor mounts and they are top notch in quality.

Pushers Kits Cut out from foam rather than molded

I see that this thread has a lot of molded EZ Star clones, but hasn’t yet had a post about two pushers made from cut out foam parts which share similar beginner friendly flying habits. Threads on the Push E Cat and Push Panther planes were started a while back by their designers Darwin Garrison and Dean Thomas.

Beginner Training Area (Aircraft-Electric) Push-E Cat V4
Darwin Garrison posted his argument for his Push E Cat made from parts cut from EPP foam as a more durable long term flyer than molded EPO foam ARFs. I can see why he put the Push E Cat thread in the beginner area because of its docile flight characteristics, but it is hardly a beginner building project.

I’ve been looking for a Push E Cat for a while, and found the kit for an early version still unbuilt at a club swap meet this February. My most recent post on building that plane involved installing control linkages. I've attached picture of completed airframe. .

Darwin Garrison still has a website for his enterprise, but there hasn’t been much activity on it lately.

Foamies (Kits) Panther Pusher - Power Glider
Dean Thomas of Steelhead Products offered a pusher modification of his Panther glider which was assembled from parts cut from Blue extruded poly styrene foam. Steelhead’s most popular offering was the Floyd, a simple sloper made from pink foam. I started building my Push Panther in October 2010

https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...&postcount=459

Last year about this time I had finished it. By the time I got it balanced out it weighed 35.5 ounces with a 5 ounce Hyperion 1600 mAh 3S battery installed.

Last June I made a few test hops with the Push Panther. It flew fine, but I didn’t have the skills to turn it inside the boundaries of my local flying field. I have a somewhat bigger motor to put on it to overcome the weight. Meanwhile I’m hoping I can make the Push E Cat lighter and easier to fly.

The last post I saw from Dean on the Push Panther thread was from December 2010, and there were no later ones on threads for other Steelhead products either

Hopefully there is still a place for these more individual planes and the entrepreneurs that design them.
