The white coat. This will be the final color for the plug. The panel lines are very hard to see. Once the paint dries the tape is removed. Lets see how clean the lines are and how the tape releases. I have old plastic 1/64 tape on one side and paper 1/64 on the other for one of the long panel lines. !!

The lines will show up as black an rust brown once the tape is removed.

The V-stab has a ton of detail on it. I will do that later this week, I broke the rear tip of the rudder off. Poop.

Tape removed. Clean up of lines, scribe lines if needed.

V-stab panel lines next

Very, very light wet sand.

Then alum panels.

The line at the wing fairing will be a guide for the separate piece for the fairing since I want optional wing airfoils/thickness.

The nose panel lines look off. Have redo that section. The nose will be removable so the panel line will make a nice guide to split the nose off the fuse. Should be even. Crap!

Na, just a few panels.

5,000 rivets. By that time the plug will fall apart.

Nice progress. I never tire of looking at the F-104, in any size it's just too cool.

A bit of alum duct tape use.

My details are subtle. I don't like large gaps for panel lines or rail road tie sized rivets. Especially after looking at the 104 in person.

One can always use washes and pens to enhance details, or light sanding to eliminate them.

The details:

Locations and sizes drawn on in pencil first, then pattern made from clear plastic(since one can see through it), then use clear plastic to make aluminum panels. Insures panels are the same on opposing side.

Screws on removable panels made with an old metal mechanical pencil tip. Rivets are made with a pounce wheel. The aluminum tape is great for subtle detail.

This is my favorite part. Plus I only have to do it once and have it for all my other 104 fuses.

A quick mock up to see if things look right. Wing covered in monocote.

Also the scale/size in relation to the bike

Fuse is around 63-64" long.

There are a lot of details I can make out of alum tape on this plane. A lot!!

A little at a time, as AirSally pointed out in an earlier post

That looks so hot Steve. The bike definitely helps give a sense of scale. It looks like a nice size! I bet you are enjoying doing the details. This is where the plug starts to come alive.
