That prop will be short on thrust.

Last piece of puzzle in
motor is in finally
Mega 16/45/1.5RE : 1985 Kv on 5s 2200 mah TP pack just need to figure the best prop...starting with 5.5 x6.5 hope torque roll wont be an issue thank you Gryphon RCU to help me select the motor for my needs . Mike |

That’s a splendid setup!
I used the 16/45/1.5RE in my F5D Dominator on 5S (1800mAh) with 5.5 x 6.5 (APC speed 400). Torque roll was not an issue with my Dominator (which has a very narrow/high-aspect ratio wing at the tips and small ailerons). I use a smooth throttle ramp, but that’s mainly to conserve energy. I don’t think torque roll will be an issue for you. Averaged about 55A (920W) airborne over the duration of a full-throttle flight. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it! Tim |

Hi Mike,
If you have APC Pylon 6.5X5.0 , check to see what that draws. Might be good prop for maiden flight. G. |

What's the max amp the motor can take for static check. On 5s. I think a bigger prop might drop rpm and gain more thrust. But for speed was looking for an over pitched prop . 920watts on 5 s Seems weak lol

920W on 5S is for F5D pylon racing where there is a 1000 Watt-minute limit. This gets an F5D airframe going around the pylon course pretty fast (said to be around 200mph - maybe closer to like 180mph). Yes, you can do better with sport flying where there are no restrictions, but that's the reason for the 920W.
Of course, pylon racing is also run WOT continuously for the duration of a race (about a minute), not short bursts. Again then, you can do more current/Watts if full-throttle is used only in bursts. Tim |

If I was doing static testing my way, I would test to 160 AMPs. Set ESC logging to 10Hz. Motor at room temp. Go to full throttle quickly and about 2 1/2 to 3 seconds later shut it off quickly. Look at the zoomed in graph, find initial peak AMP spike (meaningkess since motor is spooling), go past that time stamp by 1.0 seconds. Either read the data from that moment (place the mouse there), or zoom in further to a window from there to another half second past it. (From 1.0 sec to 1.5 second past initial peak AMP spike) and read the average values from the table below. If voltage is shooting back up, test duration was slightly too short. Narrow the zoomed in window to read average, or let motor cool down and then re-test. ------- 6.5X5 was just a suggestion for "Maiden flight". No need for a spinner if fit is an issue. Goal is to just trim etc etc. A prop with 100A static load and less pitch size than diameter (better unloading) should get you great thrust for launch, and some mixed flying/throttle control. Good enough for early flights. G. |

This thread is dying! Anybody still flying their X-Plane? I put mine away last fall and got it back out recently. Still a total rush launching it on just 4S.... haven't had the huevos to put my 5S packs in and toss it. Being a lefty I still don't quite have a good launch technique down yet, but getting better. It's a blast to fly once I get it in the air.
