Decided my latest X-plane is going racing.

Going to set it up F5D legal, using an outrunner, to try and spur some others into actual racing here. We have a nitro FAI course & series that needs invading.

Will post up pics

Nice. I've just changed my motor to a HET 1W-40 from the Neu that was in it and hope to run it in a few weeks.
What outrunner are you putting in it?? Post pic's.

+1 on what outrunner are you going with? I will have the pyro soon for you to measure up if you want to check it out.

Maybe we need to develop some special direct drive F5D folders for outrunners that are built for those power levels, and are optimised for the style of flying done over 10 laps.

1000w/min isnt it?

Best guys are sub 60secs I understand, so plan for ~70

Aim for around 800-850watt I guess as a starting point (in flight)? Wild guessing here.

When I get my setup I plan to test a whole bunch of props to figure out what is going to give me roughly the right load (with just enough thrust + most pitch speed) and then wait for a magic man like you to make a shiney prop with that size

well, i'm not sure if/when i'll make the jump to 5s, and had a bad experience last time i tried to buy a cc125. Picked up a ice 100 yesterday. hopefully I don't regret it. Only a few things left to buy

I think an F5D powered X is a great idea if not a little slower than you guys are used to but flying circles around yourself makes up for it.

DUP, If you want to design a real F5D prop make sure it can go 10 laps with one of these... I have a few props including a sawtooth from Paul and one from Slowbarless and they are night and day different. I am sure the guys building props to sell to public are making them stiffer and thicker for overpower use but Pauls sawtooth and other F5D props are way thinner only to use with F5D power.

I have been involved with Paul in a new prop design and it will not work on another airframe with a different motor setup than it is designed for all must work together to finish ten laps before limiter shuts motor off.

As a former slimey oily pylon racer the nice clean electric stuff is much more fun, if you keep the smoke inside...

Yes, it's clearly critical to get everything optimised!

Where do you get hold of a limiter?

My props in general are way, way over engineered for the F5D power levels.

Either the unilog (i have one and you are more than welcome to borrow it dude) http://www.sm-modellbau.de/shop/index.php?cPath=11

or the neu limiter http://www.neumotors.com/store/page19/page19.html

The neu can't log like the unilog can, its just a limiter. Unilog has lots of cool recording functions which I reckon would be helpful in setting things up.
