Good thinking... but I would guess that the paper would come appart if you got any moisture in there...so that's a worry.

I'm planning on using a sheet of thin lamination material...but it will still probably be heavier that monokote. I think it needs to have some strength to hold its shape...but I haven't expirimented to know how much.

Let us know how you make out with that tube.

Would thick Alfoil be rigid enough? Certainly light enough.

2 grams that far back is murder for the CoG and it's all out now.
I need some really light weight plastic .... or maybe paper is lighter? How much does paper weigh?

Would the clear celluloid used for windscreeens on old timers work?

I have found this clear plastic(?) packed with some shirts & even as a protective sheet over the top of chocolates in a box!

It is relatively light (in thinner sheets) and seems to be fairly stiff.

Just a suggestion.....

I have a MIG & have been following this thread very closely.

Thank you to all who have posted!

I intend to follow the advice, hits & tips in this thread when I finally get around to making mine airworthy.

yay! My Mig-15 in super-ultra-mega-commie red has arrived from Bananahobby.. It looks great except for a bunch of warping...but that's fixable.

So they came with 3-wire servos as promised but what kind of connectors are those??

Can't wait to get flying!!

One thing about thrust tube is that they become rigid once they are in the cone shape. Something that feels flimsy as a flat sheet will become much firmer once it's mounted and made into the tube.
I used some ultra light transparency sheet but it's too heavy.
To compensate for the extra tail weight I just went back to my 2S 420mah battery - so of course the extra oomph from this probably gave me a boost as it's definitely faster.
So I can't really give an objective verdict on what difference the thrust tube made.

I have ordered some 3S batteries from aircraft-world. I'm quite happy with Hyperion batteries - they seem to do a great job.

I hope Jpower releases new modern jets in this series. I'm crossing my fingers for an F-15, F-16 or F-18.
I'm not a fan of retro jets, although I have flown my F-86 a lot.
It needs some company hanging on the wall, and the Mig is not going to be it

Some sort of micro JST connector. The good news is that you can pop the contacts out of the plug and push them into the very slightly bigger plug of the type fitted to the Blue Arrow 2.5gm servos. This will then fit the Spektrum AR6300 or similar.
Had several fights today with both the Mig and the Sabre. Managed to break the Migs wing tip just outboard of the aileron servo. However 30 seconds with some cyano had it airworthy again. I've abandoned my Flightpower 2s
300mahs. I tried a Zippy 2s 350 which gave a noticeable improvement in speed and then tried a Rhino 3s 360 in the Sabre which made it fly - well like a jet! I think the extra 10gms up front helped with the balance and so far so good with the ESC.

Life begins at transition
yeah, I don't know how you guys are flying this thing on 2s!

I'm running 4s on the stock motor/fan. It cruises at around 1/3 throttle, and has heaps of thrust on tap if you wish
