mini quadrotor build
After perusing the fora,
I formed this amalgam of recommendations for a small quadrotor build

6A Turnigy Plush ESC
There might be a problem with the BlueSeries ESC and the 1811/2000kv motors
I read of one user having rough motor starts with this setup
but they were very cheap (and in stock) so good for having a go
I will be checking the soldering
I thought the Plush were out of stock at the time I ordered but they were in stock when I looked later. Well I have ordered the BlueSeries now.
We will see.
3S 800mAh is great for me as almost everything runs on those around here

HK Quad copter controller
so I got the HK quad controller ($30), back ordered it so I could get one when they came in again, duly shipped and all but arrived mis-assembled. The yaw gyro daughter board is flat face down off the edge of the mainboard
The funny thing is, the pins arent bent outwards towards the edge of the board as you would expect if it just got crushed in shipping (why you would ship a pcb assembly with a 90 degree stand-off daughterboard in a plain "padded" envelope and expect that to be ok I dont know).
Instead, the pins are bent *inwards* towards the centre of the board. The only way this could be like it is would be if it was assembled exactly as it is right now. This could have have happened if the 90 degreee pin row went in backwards and they bent the pins up to solder the other board to them.
Anyway, HK reckon I caused the damage so all I got was an invitation to return the goods at my own expense for them to look at. I have provided them with excellent photographs already so basically I give up and will just write it off. I will also try to repair the board. Not exactly disappointed in HK since any expectations I have are my own problem. Nevertheless, I see no reason revise their shabby reputation for qc/cs.
With that done and the hk board on the bench to have its 90 degree connector replaced, I saw that the KK 5.5d board is nearly ready but still open for pre-order so Ive jumped in and bought the package with the LCD and the XX-QuadX firmware (not the KR)
I like that the lcd is such a cheap option, I didnt hesitate.
I guess that will ship when its ready so in the meantime I hope to get the HK board working for some + mode fun
I chose X mode to get me started on the KK 5.5d not because I want it to be like the drone but because I think I prefer the x mode to the + mode aesthetically anyway. I will already be trying + mode with the HK board.
Im not afraid to reflash the firmware on these but may as well go with the supplied firmware to start with in the case of the HK board and start with the mode I want try first with KK 5.5d
Anyway, Im off to post in a public forum for the first time, heading over to the kk 5.5d thread to say gday
