Dont know which plug n play system to buy.

For $400, this one looks 95% complete (link below). But I don't know enough to be sure I'm getting a good system that I wont have to upgrade right away.

Im signed up for a radio license class this summer, and hope to be up and flying by Sept.

900 mHz because Im flying 2.4, but is the other bands better for range? I also might fly FM 72.

What would be an "average" range for 900MHz / 500mW video transmitter at 399 ft high VS the 1 watt system?

Help! I don't want to try and piece a system together because Im a Noob.

Thanks for any help. Scoot

And there is this for $550.

I get 10km under 100 feet with the DPCAV 900mhz 500mw VTX with a 9dbi Yagi and a V on the plane. The area you fly in will determine your best frequency for video.

This is one of the problems for a new comer. "Yagi and a V on the plane"

V what?

I fly out in the desert. Nothing for 10 miles either direction except 5' tall bushes.

Bottom of this page, you can also DIY a V by following the IBCrazy antenna tutorial

If you are in the middle of nowhere then 900mhz will get you the furtherest at the lowest altitude.

Why 1.2?

Because 900MHz is on the edge of the GSM cell phone band. Cell phones wreck havok on 900MHz. I like 900MHz only when flying in the middle of nowhere. If it's a crowdeded area, I fly 1.3 or 2.4GHz. If I fly 2.4GHz, I have to fly alone or someone will inevitably turn on their 2.4GHz radio and scramble my video...

Checked today, two of the guys that fly FPV at my field fly 900GHz without video problems. Now Im confused more.

I don't plan to fly at the same time as them, so being on the same freq doesn't concern me. I do fly out in the middle of nowhere. No trees or hills.

900mhz or 1200mhz will be no problems unless you are in a city. I fly on 900mhz as I said and I have perfect cell phone coverage
Both good choices, 1200mhz has a bit smaller antenna which may be an advantage to you.

I also noticed that some of the FPV web sites dont say what kind of vRx they are selling.

I dont want to have to upgrade the vRx, so Lawmate VTX/VRX combo? I dont mind spending a little extra the 1st time.
