Great! The HobbyWing 10amp ESCS (same a Turnigy Plush) are a perfect match for the Scarab QuadOcta with CarbonBird motors:

I'm glad you liked the video - should see some of my others!

What brand 14amp ESCs are you looking at? The Plush/Hobbywing 10amps are well suited. 14amp is OK current-wise but you'll be adding weight with larger ESCs.

Yes a DX8 is great, I use a JR 11x with a Spektrum AR7010 with a satellite mounted on the rear carbon leg (away from my FPV VTX).

If you get the CarbonBird motors, they have long enough leads to make it all the way through the booms. You'll need maybe a few inches of 14awg wire to solder the ESCs together for the battery connection.

I live in California, and it takes about 1 week for the stuff to arrive from Australia - not sure if it would be faster or slower to ship to NY.

The motors should be arriving soon - that is the rumor. They are not sold anywhere else and are specially designed for the Scarab (low KV, good bearings and long wires). There are other motors (KDA) that will work too take a look here:

http://www.multiwiicopter.com/pages/gear-list

You will need a 4s 2200 battery - probably the best battery for the Scarab QuadOcta on CarbonBird motors. If you go with different motors then you might need to revise the battery and ESC selection!

The 9050 three bladed props are really good, I suggest getting those instead. or the 12" props for heavy lifting/hovering. The three-bladed props are great for fast forward flight and good-overall.

Yes, the Scarab QuadOcta is a step up from the WhiteSpy. It's larger and is a more advanced design with the ability to tilt the motors for better YAW. Slender booms make for efficient prop/thrust and flight times. Flight times are pretty good with small batteries and power/performance is hard to match. Plus it has a nice way to hold the GoPro camera.

dang... the quad board is out of stock... is the tri/6 easier to fly than the quad?

would the hexa version be more stable... i'm a photographer and i want to use this for wedding overheads..

the quad board is out of stock and the motors are too!

Can i use different motors... I'll need six then. what size would be good?
thanks for all you help..

opinions:

Should i get the Scarab QUADocta and wait for the PARIS board & motors to get back in stock?

or go with the Carbon SCARAB YSiixKopta and just have to wait for the motors?

I want something stable!

Power to GoPro

Hi Guys,

Can the gopro be powered externally using the usb plug on 5v without having the main battery in it? or does the battery have to be in the gopro to use the usb as a power source?

Just curious as the battery is like around 30g in weight, it would be great to get rid of that weight.
