great pics Sean, thank you....The CorroSpit felt comfortable from the very beginning, no bad habits, good penetration, and great roll rate.....

need to get the plans updated so we can get a British invasion going in PE !

Well done on the Spitfire!! Fantastic Job Jim. I am sorry I couldend make it out ther yesterday. Kids come first. But as you said "some other time"

Another Corrospit


Just completed this one - could not wait for FB to work his way through his other creations to finally build his spitfire , so started my own, based on some very detailed balsa plans done some years ago by Dave Philpotts. Tried to keep some the distinctive spitfire characteristics:
1) 'Belly shape' of the nose underside (achieved using a foam block; also provides easy access to battery connection)
2) Flat topped fuse shape at engine bay, transitioning to greater curvature at canopy (large efffort of questionable value)
3) Wing trailing edge to fuselage fairings (surprisingly easy) - gives that distinctive curved transition from wing to fuse.
4) Flat wing centre section (made use of torque rods difficult, so I used pushrods for the ailerons, but would try to make torque rods work if I was building this again)
5) Extended ailerons, but kept them short of full span...just looks better
6) Moulded a coke bottle over a plug to get a more scale canopy
7) Added an (enlarged) air intake - acts as a handle for hand launches, plus used to direct cooling air into the ESC/ battery compartment. Hopefully it will stay on during rough landings

Unfortunately, there is limited wind in this part of the world, so the plane has an "APU" up front. Helps with the balance (needed no balancing weight with a 3300mAh Lipo), but it should work as a sloper as well.

Key dimensions: Span 115cm, ,AUW ~1350g. Flies like a dream. Surprisingly, hand launches are more docile than my Mig, despite all the dire warnings of the Spit's tip stalling vices.

Very well done Extreme Sport! your Spity looks fantastic. It looks like FB has some comptition now...
How did you manage to get the wing trailing edge to fuselage fairings right??

Aimrah2000, I simply kept the centre section of the wing top surface as part of the fuselage (In practice I put the wing doubler inside rather than on top of the main wing skin so as to make space for the matching part that is attached to the fuse). I then faired this on top using a triangle of 2mm corex from the thickest part of the wing to the trailing edge (I slit the inside flutes and trimmed to shape once glued on). This has the added benefit of ensuring that the wing is always properly centered. Finally, I melted some holes at the back for the elastic bands to go through. The attached pics may explain better than words.

Man both those Spits look awesome. Just have to decide which one to fly. Electric driven or air driven. ......Well we have no park- fly fields available ... so it would have to be Jim`s air driven model.
