A few weeks ago I did my 1st VTO with my Stinger. I used the HK 4800kv Outrunner in the standard fan unit on 4s 1700 Dualsky Lipos. It did it much easier that I thought it would. I did it about 3 times that day and found it a lot easier than hand launching it.

Bring on the weekend again.

2815 and I didn't check the amp draw. I was using a Dualsky 60amp esc and 35c 1700 Dualsky which had no problem delivering that power... My guess would of been around 45amps.

Speaking of turning while hand launching...

I must try tossing it with my left hand - that should give some initial right twist, what should result in more level flight.

I also pushed the battery slightly more to the back, as a result the jet stopped dropping nose when engine off, now it glides better. Need to make some final adjustments, but it seems the perfect CG for it will be at the back of recommended factory settings or even slightly further.

My Stinger (about 700 watts) does this on every hand launch . I have at least 5 or 6 EDF's that I hand launch right now and for some reason the stinger is the only one with this characteristic that is so pronounced. Even when I throw it 'overhead' it still does it! It is no biggie when you are expecting it though. Great pictures.

I have encountered same problem when I use to launch it by holding on top between wings (as per above picture). Since holding it from underneath using fingholds it has a tendancy to not flick to the left at much on launches.

Made another few flights today, stock setup is just fine, let's call it recreational flying. Now I am wondering - what next? Been thinking of ViperJet 70mm EDF maybe

$50 for the up to 30 ounce jetapult.

Certainly not as cheap as a 20 foot section of.bungee chord. A jetapult is a bungee system that has plastic rails. You hook the plane to the bungee and sit the plane on the rails. Give the plane full power, hit the foot activated switch and off she goes.

You can make your own rail system out of half inch PVC pipe with some T's and 90 degree bends. Just angle the rails at a 5-10 degree angle. Then your bungee gets.pulled to about two to three times your aircraft weight and you are off to the races. A fishing scale comes in handy for this. Just count your paces that it takes to pull the bungee to the correct.weight and you'll only have to measure once. The rest of the time, you'll just count paces for a particular model.

yeah, they've come down quite a bit since they were first introduced. there's a guy on RCCanada selling one for around that price at the moment. still not as cheap as a 20 foot length of bungee chord. LOL.

I maidened my PNF Red Stinger64 today.

Standard out the box servos, linkages and connections.
R610 with brown out cap.
Replaced stock esc with TP H40A.
4s 2200 nanotech 25-50c.
Cg set @ 70mm

46 Amp @ WOT
730 watt

800gram auw.
415 watt per pound.

Had a friend handlaunch into a 5 knot breeze.
I saw the left torque roll but was no biggy at all.
I initially set flight modes up and turned all the FM0 rates to 50% throw and 25% expo.
On limmediately I went to FM1 set to 65% throws ang 30% expo As the aerie was very unresponsive.

I definately wouldnt say its a rocket.. But it keeps you busy definately.

Had a lot of fun flyin 5:30.

She landed pretty hot. Think i need more elevator throw to slow her down more.

Fun little aerie.

Just got done installing my new Wiked edf 4000kv motor, new balanced fan and 40 amp esc. I soldered all motor connections per instructions and spooled her up.

Using new Turnigy 4s 2200 40/50c got 624 watts 40.5 amps static. Just doubled my watts from stock

Will try and fly it tonight.

Just ordered up 2 more Stingers for my buddies, and threw a twin 64mm 360 thrust vector job in the cart for me

This EDF stuff is fun!

Don't know if anyone posted but the Stingers are on sale for a low low $69 at banana hobbies right now as so are a bunch of cool jets.

The mini blue angles hornet and the F-22 are awesome looking. And only $75 for receiver ready with 50mm edf. I wanted both but ordered the blue angles jet to check it out. They also sell smaller, pocket jets. lol

I ordered a red Stinger last night (my first EDF) from BH for $84 shipped to my door.
Banana and HK are both showing the gear as out of stock.
Does anyone know of other sources, or other gear options that work well?

I'll be happy hand-launching/belly landing for a while, but landings and take-offs are a major part of the fun of RC flying so I'll want LG eventually.

Been reading a bunch here, thanks all for sharing tips and advice!

Other planes:
1450mm J-power P-38
1400mm FMS P-51
1100mm Parkzone T-28
800mm Radjet with 2826 motor (screamer!)
