Got my skywing Extra300 today and nice plane.

Anyone know what the rubber bands are for in the kit? And the two hook type wing things as well?

Hi bigroger,

The rubber bands are used to hold the two wing halves together in flight. They are put on the hooks.

Take a look at this post ( of mine, where you can find the English manual for SkyWing's MXS. It should help you.

Thanks Feda.

Can the wings be glued in with PU glue instead?

I won't be taking the wings off for transport or storage.

Personally I can't see any advantage to doing that, only disadvantages.
You won't get any more rigidity I think and you will limit future options,up to you though.

Yeah, I seldom take the wing off the fuse, but still choose to use the rubber bands and the hooks. In addition to easy transport and storage, such a structure should help reduce damage during some crashes.

I would like to buy another Scorpion SII-3020-890KV Brushless Outrunner Motor from Hobby King, if someone is willing to use my buddy code.

Do you guys install washers behind the motor mount to create some thrust angle? Or just screw the motor true to the fire wall and fly accordingly?

There should be inbuilt angle of the firewall that gives right thrust.
If you look at my pictures up the page a bit,you can see the right thrust angle that my motor ended up with by just screwing it straight onto the firewall. It is quite a bit actually.Yours should be the same.

Thanks Bleary.

I didn't look actually, I just screwed in with a couple of extra washers and your right it has too much angle now.

Can't wait to fly this bird.

My ADX had me shaking like a leaf as a first balsa plane. EPP is much less scary I think.

She is all together now.

Easiest plane ever to build and prep.

I'm running corona servos in the wings and HS65MG in the tail.

Don't forget to set the Rx to analog when running analog servos, I was really pissed with the Hitec's that wouldn't centre and behave, until I switch the Rx then the run smooth and lovely.

CG at 115-120 is a struggle though with the Turnigy 3s2200 battery pushed right back to the spar.

I've got about 45-50deg throw on all surfaces using the carbon arms you can order from Bestvalue RC.

I'll toss it up later today to see how it flys.

CG ended up fine at 120-130mm from LE.

Silly me, I measured and marked 150mm instead of 115mm on the wing and wondered why I could balance the plane.

Flew one 2200mA pack for 10 min mid throttle to trim it out. Took very little effort to trim flat, bit of CG adjustment, mostly backwards to get it to fly neutral inverted.

Then full rates and elevator from height into harrier, no wing rock and gentle landing in harrier.

Took it up for some high speed throwing, blender and flat inverted spin not a problem.

Damn those ailerons are sensitive at speed!!

Fantastic plane!!!

Groove, see my question comparing the MSX to the Extra.

Do you have a preference, ie ease of flying 3D?

I'm looking for my next one already.

Also ordered my EF 48" edge today.

Flogged the lid off the Extra this morning.

Only put two packs through her before the two magnets holding the canopy on came loose during a blender and down floated the lid.

I promptly harried in nicely for a gently tail touch and go across the field to where I was stationed and shut the plane off while I went and collected the lid.

Epoxy drying aas I write this and looking to go out again after work.

One thing I noticed is that the lowest hinge in the rudder has torn out the foam. Don't know if it was the long grass taxi/take off's or a slightly to hard harrier tail touch thats down that.

Bit of CA and accelerator and should be good to go.

I might look at a slightly bigger tail when, just in case its the grass caused it to tear out.

Well done matey.
This is an ongoing bugbear of mine, direct to rudder tailwheels....NO NO NO!
The Skywing planes are not the only offenders,my PA planes have the same setup.
All the force of tail touches and taxi stress goes straight to the hinges and servo. It is uneccesary really,I mean how much taxiing do you do with this style of plane anyway?
Either a free castering wheel,or one that has a less direct link to the rudder would be much better.I worry more about my rudder servo rather than driving around on the ground....there,got that off my chest
