Gas setup on a Yak 54 by Seagull

I am looking to buy a gasser for my yak 54. It has a 63" wingspan and I was thinking an MLD-28 would do the job but would that be too much power? I am also interested in the DLE 20cc. It seems to put out enough power with a 17x6.
The main thing is the price. I can't really spend over 250. thanks guys.

here is the plane-

I have a seagull yak and have fitted a rcg 20 beam mount it is swinging a 17 6 at 8900! Showed 14 lbs thrust on the model with the wings on. I have not flown it yet as the wind in uk has never stopped for 4 weeks + but I can tell you I am looking forward to it as the power from this cheap little engine is obvious. Dont know if it is as strong as a dle but cant be far away and weighs pretty much the same.

Cant comment on reliability yet and maybe im lucky to get one thats this good so dont want to over sell this engine to you, just another option for a cheap engine.

DLE-20 should be a good match for your Yak under 10 lbs. I've a 28cc on as 72" Yak 54 at 12.5 lbs and it pulls it with a lot of authority.

My Ultra Stick Lite 1.20 has a 20cc Zenoah on it at a hair under ten pounds and it pulls it well. I think the DLE-20 is stronger than the Zenoah so it should do very well.

Do you have any pictures of your setup? RCG 20 looks like a good value... wondering how it would be with a canister muffler setup.

The RCG20 turns a 15x6, the DLE20 turns a 17x6.

NO the rcg 20 BEAM MOUNT turns a 17 6 at 8900, it is a dle 20 copy, it does not take long for the chinese to copy a good design. there is a you tube clip of one (BEAM MOUNT) swinging a 17 6 xoar at 8300. I have had 14 lbs of thrust with mine on a 17 6.

I have been saying this for a few weeks and it seems it is falling on deaf ears, oh well.

This is producing more power and is lighter than the old rcg 20 radial mount.

The dle is a great engine no dowbt and I would not hesitate to buy one, it has proven itself, but to me the gap between dle and other engines has drastically reduced with the rcg BEAM MOUNT, and hopefully some competition will help in the pricing.

BEAM MOUNT lol

RCG 20 beam mount

I was thinking of this engine:

Has anyone tried a canister muffler setup on this or a DLE 20 or another small gasser? Wondering how hot that canister would be inside the airplane (thinking very hot) and what the advantages would be..

Raydar,

Thanks for the pictures. Looks good. So you have run the engine and you're happy with it so far? Do you know how much it weighs with ignition and muffler?

904 grams engine, plug, ignition and muffler.

Aye ran it and got 14 pounds thrust with 17 6, started no prob even before I adjusted the static timing (takes ten minutes). Sounds good and smooth 1800 idle with low vibration, when hot one flip and she goes, first gasser im hooked!.

I have researched this engine as best I can and the few reports I have read suggest this is as strong or stronger than a dle 20, I am NOT claiming this is true but so far the figures I have got on the 17 6 prop have backed up the fact that this engine is strong, alot stronger than the rcg 20 radial mount.

Wish I could have got a half dozen flights on this by now to test reliability but as said weather crap, 60 to 70 mile an hour wind today in scotland!!!!

Thanks for all the info Raydar.

Does the carb on the RCG 20 beam mount have a pump?
