Hobbyking TL2000 its only a 46" foam model but looks well on the floats and comes of the water fine despite the step being to far forward

Flying Models Plans
rockyboy,

Thinking about that site, the first question is how typical is that wind? If it goes to calm with any regularity during the morning and evening, you can have a lot of fun with a lightly loaded model. If that is as calm as it gets, it will be tougher to find an option.

Do you prefer building with balsa or foam? Does it matter?

For calm weather, I'm quite partial to the Fred Reese Electric Kitten these days, a 50-inch high wing monoplane that weighs about a pound on floats. Yes, I've got a vested interest, as I sell plans and short kits. Here is a video, with links in the description if you are tempted. It may be a little big for your site as a first water flyer, but it is very slow, as you will see.

Bill Stevens has some nice options, both with and without wings. His SkyBuggy 300 is a ball with floats. While you are looking, the WaterBoard airboat is essentially a drift car for small ponds, and also a ton of fun.

Zeke Brubaker's Park Scale Models Gannet is a good beginner flying boat, with great handling in the air and in the water. The mini Drake is fun too, but is a little more challenging.

The Jupiter Duck seems to be a great foam flying boat, though I haven't built one yet. For your apparent site and conditions I would be tempted to scale it up a little. Maybe to 150 percent.

The Puddle Twin is another option, and has been quite popular in the past.

There are a couple of variants on the shape of the nose, and it also responds well to enlarging.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Hey Thayer...our new place is in southern Illinois and I don't think the wind gets up much there. Been living on a lake for the past 15 years and got used to the wind...then I started using receivers with stabilization and now I embrace the breeze..

Been flying foam mostly....looking forward to building some scale floatplanes...balsa doesn't scare me much anymore as my flying skills have improved.
.
Thanks for all the suggestions!

Ps..Digging that electric kitten...and a well done video to you sir...I will have to have one...

Night flying in the wildfire smoke blown in for Oregon last week with the Flex RV-8. Created an eerie glow in the thick sky and lots of fun.

It is great to see that Mark 2's Coronado is flying.

Here is a recent video of mine flying on its second session since the repair. Thanks to Tim for this wonderful video.
