How bad is 5.8Ghz Video link for FPV .. ???

Hi ..

Please correct me .. I've read somewhere that 5.8Ghz Video link is the worst thing I can do in choosing my FPV gear .. Is that really true ??

What about video clarity , range , interference .... ??

Thanks a lot for your help

Not necessarily. 5.8GHz works well in high noise areas.

Advantages:
Small antennas
Light and small TX/RX sets
Many channels to choose from
Low noise floor in most areas
Legal amost worldwide

Disadvantages:
Poor multipath rejection
Signal is easily blocked by obstacles including flight battery.
Poor antenna selection

You need to choose what works for you. It's kind of a crap shoot.

So far ive found thats untrue, so far the picture quality has been fine, range isnt a big problem. As long as you chose the right configuration its not bad at all

well with your antennas alex I have gone from not liking 5.8ghz to being in love with it I personally think that if I had an antenna tracker and a cp helical I think I might be able to reach 10km. Now since my range is nothing close to that with the planes I have ... I am pretty happy with 5.8ghz. Not changing to anything else now.

Alex your antennas changed the way 5.8ghz works. they are fun again .. small antennas just makes it all the better.

Yeah I like my 5.8 system too and have 2 more planes planned for 5.8. IMO the biggest strength of 5.8 is the small size and lightweight. You can get 200mw for a few grams and run it for 30 mins off a 250mah single cell lipo and the antennas are tiny too.

Wow ,,, This is so cool to know

1-How much is the size of the SPW and Clover leaf antennas for the 5.8Ghz ?
2-What is the reliable combo of 5.8Ghz VTX/VRX ??
3-Now much better is the video feed ... ??

This is by far the best I've ever seen it was on 900Mhz and with 500mw
FPV WDR600 (3 min 37 sec)

Can you please post a link to that combo ???

Thanks a lot

A 5.8ghz clover measures 3cm wide x 1.5cm high. Real small

You can use a mixture of antennas ( always best to mix CP with CP )

Say clover on plane Skew-Planar on rx, or Clover to Clover, Clover to Bi-Quad or helical for greater range

For football field flying in circles, LOS, 5.8 ghz on circular polarized antennas is awesome. Planning some higher gain tests with helical or yagi in the near future.

Some people use 1.3 or 2.4 for video and then 5.8 as a repeater system for their fatsharks.

The aircraft sends video to the groundstation on 900, 1.3 or 2.4. A 5.8 transmitter then sends the video from the groundstation to the fatshark goggles (or foxtech). I think this is a really interesting solution if you want wireless diversity. It can also be used to create more distance beween a uhf system and a video receiver.

My point is that if you get the 5.8 fatsharks (or foxtechs) and you eventually need longer range you can always get a 900, 1.2 or 2,4 video system and then use the 5.8 as a repeater system.

not quite sure where you got that information about the video.... In that video 7 seconds in, he says that he was flying a 500mw 5.8ghz system.

The comments below, he says he`s using 900, not 5.8ghz

You can see by the size of the inverted vee being used too

My mistake I thought that the Vee looked big for 5.8 but I thought "hey, what do I know?"

Sorry for the wrong information.
