Extreme Flight 60" Edge 540T EXP - Build/Fly/Video
Guys, I can't believe it, but here goes. Chris Hinson of Extreme Flight asked me to do the 60" Edge EXP build/fly and video thread and that's just what I'm going to do, how lucky is that? Herc and the gang must be too busy 3Ding these Edges at the Joe Nall.
I have a lot of flights with 48" Edge EXP, it's the best 3D 4-footer I've flown, and I already know this 60" will be my favorite 5-footer.
Wingspan: 60 inches
Length: 58.5 inches
Wing Area: 760 square inches
AUW: ~ 5.5 lbs
$259.95 available direct from Extreme Flight.
$429.95 with power combo (esc+motor).
Airtronics 94820 servos
Dubro Heavy Duty servo arms for Airtonics (cat no. 856)
EF Airboss Elite 80 amp ESC
EF Torque Revolution 4016T/500 motor
6S 3000mah and 5S 3600 lipos and maybe some 4000 ones.
I will be using Xoar/Vox props of various sizes.
UPDATE 6/2 Flight Video
The model is nicely packaged and has all the goodies you expect from EF and a few extras.
* Carbon and composite reinforced fuselage and landing gear mount
* Complete hardware package with dual ball links for all control surface actuation
* Carbon Fiber wing tube, main gear and tail wheel assembly
* Side Force Generators
* Wing Bags
* Decal sheet
Mine arrived in perfect condition.
Let me know if there's any questions or specific things to check out.
I have the red, white and blue version and will be starting the build right after this initial post.
Here's a few shots to get started.

OK, let's talk about weight for a sec. My flying style is low and slow and lots of 3D so I like low wing loading.
Now, when I first built my 48" Edge, and weighed it close to 3 lbs, that seemed on the heavy side for a 48". But when I flew her she flew *very* light. The Extra EXP also flies light on the wing, but the Edge had something about it that makes it 3D so easy.
Bottom line is with the 60" Edge I'm not worried about weight, but all the same I like to keep my eye on it, so here are some numbers:
Left wing 201
Right wing 202
Wing Tube 39
Wheel Pants 39
Main Gear 51
Hardware Packet 103
Torque Motor 290
Motor Hardware 30
Vox Propeller 29
Airboss ESC 84
4 X airtronics 94820 112
Servo arms 6
Spektrum 6200 10
6S 3000mah Lipo 460
AUW 2400 grams
Never measured glue! Guessing less than 1 oz.
So this model is going to be floaty 3D magical. Considering I've owned two Extra 58" that were 90-92 oz AUW and they flew very good 3D.
Here we have larger plane with more wing area, more fuse area, lighter weight and the Edge design.
For those with 4S packs, and lighter motors like the Motrolfly 3620, you could get AUW near 82 oz.
The absolute lightest setup would be with Motrolfly (saving 2 oz), no pants or spinner (2 oz), no SFGs (1.5oz) and lighter lipo (2 oz). AUW under 80 oz.

Well, I've got the perfect set of days for putting this together, the weather has been very Northwest. Low pressure, gray and wet. So we build.....
What can I say, there's not a lot of building, EF has done just about everything except brew the coffee.
Before starting off, I like to have all the tools right there ready to go. And plenty of sharp blades handy, and maybe a classic rock CD.

Now it's time to glue the hinges with thin CA and install the servos, control rods and ball links.
I like to use a set of hemostats and a small pivot type screwdriver for the ball link assembly.
And even though the kit includes lock nuts, I use some blue loctite anyways.
In the hardware kit with the tail wheel are four threaded control rods. Find the two smallest ones and thread the ball links on. Keep twisting until you have the desired length.

Moving along, lets put together the gear and also fit and glue the horiz stab and elevator.
A note on gluing the stab in. What I like to do is do the measurements first, then when satisfied, CA the stab in, but just with a few drops.
Let it dry a few minutes and take measurements again. If all is well hit it with more CA. But if it something wiggled or jiggled it will be easy to debond those few drops and fix the error.
