I think you can find the same 2W amp cheaper on ebay, post #58 has the link. I did, but no chance to test it yet. The range of the 1W transmitter is very good, however.

I had all my test done on the FRsky system. I had read good reviews about it, and was cheap enough for me to try .
I know other people used on different RC 2.4Ghz. I guess it can be done if you know what to do, else use the search option on the forum, and/or ask if other people has done it. I suggest to do a lot of tests nearby before trying flying far away.
Hi Elcheapo,

Congrats for the awesome flight.
I have a Maxi Swift with Spektrum AR7000 rcv, my TX is the Spektrum DX7.
Can I use this amplifier to boost my TX.
Sorry I'm new to this boosting thingy so pls. excuse me if my question is dumb.

I tested this amplifier with 5dbi frsky whip antenna:
FPV FrSky 5290m (28 min 31 sec)

So far 5,3km but I found FrSky is very fragile - I need to separate the power supply for my receiver. Now using swithing BEC from turnigy plush and i found it causing interference and decreasing range.

Elcheapo 3 important questions:
- how did you place receiver antennas? (picture please)
- what is the power source for receiver/servos?
- which 14dbi patch did you use for the longest flight?

I have these now:
11dbi

14dbi

7dbi

The 2W amp look and work great already one year latter for me. Very reliable! However it tend to degrade the video(1280mhz) only when I put the 14dbi patch on it, with the 2-3dbi omni is fine.

Wow - nice result. What FrSky module did you use?
Pic of plane with antena alignment?

I use telemetry module... Antennas where on the wings align in V shape looking from forward and also from the side.

Look at the second picture on this side. http://webx.dk/rc/uhf-link3/antenna-install.htm

Check the picture on the first post of the thread, the antennas are pointing upward, one with slight inclination to the front and the other to the back.

I was using the BEC on the ESC to power servos and receiver. K-force ESC with switching BEC.

The same 14Dbi patch you pictured.
BTW, I tested the 7dBi "alfa" patch on your picture and it was pure crap. This is the one that gave me good results: http://www.rangevideo.com/index.php?...17cb45b5d51fa2

Lol, is not nice to advertise your own stuff you sell

The title of the antenna sold by RV suggest it is a Frsky product, which is not true, the original Frsky antenna looks like this:

I tested an antenna very similar to that one you picture and range was very poor, ripped it after and found the guts very disgusting (separation between radiator and ground plane is unstable)
Unfortunately my tracking generator does not work on the 2.4Ghz band, so I could not make instrument test.
Rangevideo started selling the antenna I linked after I tested many others, was because my testings that they started selling the booster and FRsky also, and note that I never said the 2W booster is crap though Rangevideo sells the 1W booster.
So no, I am not promoting the antenna because Rangevideo is selling it. Rangevideo is selling the antenna because I found is a good one.
I designed RVOSD and that's my relation with Rangevideo, you seem to judge by your own behavior standard, but ask to your self if by that standard you should be promoting a no name antenna or your own product.

Hi Elcheapo, someone told me that the Frsky TX Range Video sells is not the latest model, the one sold by Hobby King is. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=14348

Do you confirm?

Thanks.

Range depends on many factors, things like on board and locally generated interference are the most important, but not the only ones.
Said this I think that 5-8km is doable if you keep the local interference low enough by doing careful routing of wires and antennas.

I don't know if there is a new version out there, you have to ask this to Vova. But I think the V8JT and V8FT are the same ones Rangevideo sells.
