Wow!!
Nice video and without one glitch.
Also you had video at 15KM out at an altitude of only 70m.
Can you post your video equipment?

That was a hell of a flight, flying through storms and still getting 44km is pretty awesome. That was a huge walk of shame though I hope there were roads nearby. Well done on pushing the limits.

Video Tx is FOX 1.5W 1.16Ghz. But FOX Rx was crap so I had to do some work on the tuner. On ground I used an L-com patch and EBAY yagi working with diversity and antenna tracker.
Retrieving the plane was another adventure. The landing site looks pretty from altitude. But it made me wish to have a 4X4. I went with camera to take some pictures but when I saw the place I forgot the camera and toke a machete. Was very lucky that my calculations were very close about the landing site.

Scuze pleeze senior Elcheapo,

Do you use an attenuator between your tx and the booster?
If so, what value?
If not, how long have you been using it without one?

Thank you. And WOW! Congrats!

That was cool.
I've always wanted to fly around storms, not though them.

Didnt though about, the full scale airplane is safe because is metal. But something like that through my poor maxi. And I could only left the option to pack and go back home to build a new one .

No attenuator, TX connected direct to booster. FRsky output is 60mW. Thats safe for the booster. Just make sure you use the appropriate polarity SMA. There is SMA and RP-SMA. Connecting two same gender RP-SMA is like not connecting anything.

I changed the tuner, used a comtech instead, pins are different but they are compatible.

Ive not thought about it before, but by your experience me thinks if it dont look good to make it home, having an emergency ditch procedure would be a solid idea. Pick your spot, near a road, controled landing - minimal damage, gps landing site coodinates. Lesson learned. Glad you didnt lose your baby.

It's quite hard to "land" a plane more than 10km out because of the video signal fades as you get closer to the ground, if you are gliding when you lose video signal it will not be exactly where the GPS coordinates are but usually close enough to find it.
