Full fuse 3D foamy (with video.. plans now FREE)

Hi gents, its been a while since my last foamy build
But here are the beginnings of my latest full fuse foamy. I'm building it for a mate.
Its not based on anything really, and all of it has been directly drawn onto the foam so there are no plans yet, but I will make up a set of plans and build guide if she flies as expected.

dG

I was asking for a small donation. But this just wasn't working.
There are not enough of these being built and it is such a fun little plane to fly that I am making the plans
available for free here.
Thank you to those who did donate 99c
Now I hope to see many more builds being posted in this thread

The wingspan is 910mm. I am building with my usual 10mm EPS sheet.. because its cheap and easy to repair the usual damage.
Some more pics...

Thanks guys, well lets hope its a good performer then

I've just added a locating lip and magnets to the canopy for easy battery changes.
I first recess and epoxy one in place in the canopy and cover it with clear tape and let it set keeping it nice and flush with the surface of the foam. Once its set I recess the mating magnet in the plane but make the hole a tiny bit larger. Then epoxy inside the recess, drop the magnet in and cover with a film of epoxy (allows magnet to slide a little). Then place a piece of clear tape over the lot and fit the canopy in place. The slightly bigger hole (but only just bigger) allows you to jiggle the canopy to get a perfect fit... and when the epoxy sets the canopy sits nice and straight.

Looks great... I still want to build your edge 540 except use all epp for the construction.

EPP would be great, you can then get away with a thinner sheet for the wings, EPS gets quite weak in anything under 10mm for large panels.
If you do eventually build one please share your progress in the Edge thread.

A box of tongue depressors is cheap and they are light and come in very handy for all sorts of things. I've laminated two pairs together with wood glue to make a base to screw the landing gear to. Recess where you want the wood to go and glue it in place. !00mm or so should fine to adequately spread the load so the gear doesn't rip off too easily... Painted over with red to "hide" the wood.

Next up will be to reinforce the rudder to accept the tail wheel...

OK, the rudder needs to be reinforced for a wire tail wheel assembly.

Cut three equal pieces 40mm long of wood (i used tongue depressor again)
Glue together with CA leaving a "groove" to accept the wire for the wheel.
Mark the location in the centre of the rudder and remove enough material for the wood to fit in nice and snug.. then glue into place.

I fabricated landing gear out of a piece of ally plate. Mark, cut, file and bend.... simple really. But CF landing gear could be nice too.
I wasn't going to make wheel pants for this plane, but I gave it a second thought and decided it would look way better with a pair of pants on
They're just two cut pieces of foam glued together. I'll sand some roundness into them and slap on some paint as soon as the glue dries.
