Tarot GY650 MEMS Gyro

Tarot GY650 MEMS PID Gyro - Analog and digital servos supported

There doesn't seem to be much online about this gyro, but what little there is looks good and I can't find any bad.

Here's what I've found so far:

The manual:
http://www.cnchelicopter.com/0120201...ser_manual.pdf

Seems to have a lot of the programming features.

Here's a couple of videos:

TAROT 450 GY650 (1 min 12 sec)

Here's what you get:

I've got one coming, so standby for an honest opinion.

If anyone already has one, please feel free to post about it here.

I also found out the same gyro is call a Robird G20. Here's the manual for the G20:

Web site:

Here's a video of a G20 in action:

Setup:

Looks good. Especially the piro rate, which seems very consistent.

From Robirds site (translated):
G20 gyro video

G20 public testing for some time, and because some of our internal reasons, there has been no model in the open market and the majority of faithful met. We will be in the market recently launched our G20. G20 gyro is a faithful model for sharing the video. http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMjM3OTk2OTQ0.html

Thank you, Friends of the mold to provide the wonderful video, my colleagues also hope to provide the general mode of Friends of the video on our gyroscope. We will announce our official web site available to the general model faithful to share.

It looks like setting up this gyro is a breeze. The bi-color LEDs (blue/red) on the left show the parameter selected and the blue leds on the right show the value from 1 to 5 (5 is the top led).

Here are some simple instructions on how to setup this gyro:

Note:
* First make sure your rudder channel is not reversed. This is set in the gyro now, so the rudder stick will always work the same when programming.
* To enter configuration mode, make sure the helicopter is stationary.

1/ In Headlock mode, hold the rudder stick to the left for 3 seconds.
- The leds will dance and then the top left blue led will flash.
- This indicates that the current parameter displayed is the Servo Type.
- The leds on the right display the current value, which defaults to 3 (1520/280).
2/ To select the parameter, briefly push the rudder stick to the left or right.
3/ To change a parameter, hold the rudder stick to the right for 2 seconds.
- The parameter selected on the left will light solid and the parameter value on the right will now flash.
4/ To change the parameter value, briefly push the rudder stick to the left or right.
- Remember the top led is value 5 and the bottom is value 1.
5/ To save the new parameter value, hold the rudder stick to the right for 2 seconds.
6/ You can now select another parameter, if required.
7/ To exit configuration mode and return to flight mode, hold the rudder stick to the left for 3 seconds.

Note:
* If "leave configuration state" works by holding the rudder stick to the left, reverse the rudder in the TX.
* The direction parameter has 4 options to allow reversing the gyro and the servo. Don't reverse the channel in the TX for this.
* The limit parameter is interesting. When selected the limit is set by moving the helicopters tail until the servo is at the limit and then holding the rudder stick to the right for 2 seconds to save it. Repeat again to do the opposite limit. It doesn't appear to matter in what order the inner and outer limit is set.

Parameters:
1 - Servo type (5 options)
2 - Direction (4 options)
3 - Limit
4 - Left brake (5 options)
5 - Right brake (5 options)
6 - Piro rate (5 options)
7 - Expo (5 options)
8 - Sensor response (5 options)
9 - Lock gain (5 options)

Now $47.88 shipped (ebay)

Nice! I really like my Trex 550E 3G. It just ticked all of the boxes for a perfect heli for me.

Have you also looked at the Gaui X5 FES. Seems like a really nice heli as well:

I have seen that but its a bit smaller I believe as the 550 can swing 550blades from what ive read even though it comes with 520's. The X5 comes with 500mm blades. Spares availability is not as good for the gaui where as most good heli shops sell align. The price looks a bit cheaper at 900$ but thats still 600 and when you add 20% Vat it comes to about 720+ whatever stupid customs might add on. The 550 is about 650 here in the uk plus 150 for the beastX and its maybe a tiny bit more expenive but its from the UK.

Anyway back on topic

when are you expecting yours to arrive?

Sounds like the 550 ticks more of your boxes as well.

I ordered mine the same day I started this thread, but with Hong Kong post, it's anyone's guess. Hopefully next week...
