Ok, I'll give it a thought

This requires a "full" servo arm and that space is not available up front. The servo's have to be next to each other there with "half" arms.
Let's see how the balance turns out to be when everything is in and on. Perhaps one servo can be moved backwards.

Even if you do the elevator servo as per this pic:

You can still put the rudder servo beside the elevator servo placed at a 90 degree angle.

Wiring

Did the wiring this evening for the tail navigation lights and the stuff that's going towards the wings.

There are 6 channels:
  1. ESC
  2. Left aileron
  3. Elevator
  4. Rudder
  5. Used for flaps - two ailerons servo's connected/combined
  6. Right aileron

To keep things simple, I did the following, respectively:
  1. Is going to be as is
  2. Only the orange control wire goes up
  3. Is going to be as is
  4. Is going to be as is
  5. Only the orange control wire goes up and is splitted in the top and middle of the cabin to serve each flap servo in the wing
  6. Orange control wire and 5V** (+ and -) go up to the top of the cabin (5V is tapped behind the cabin for tail navigation lights), 5V is splitted there for each wing to serve all servo's and navigation lights

All wires are guided more or less invisible and painted matt black.

Pictures taken in random angles below.

** I'll be using a Jeti Spin ESC (rated for 6 servo's), so no BEC wiring outside the rx available

Progress on the way ;-)

Maidened my red Carbon Cub this evening. Bit of a pilot error, I now have servo's to put in the Carbon Cub

Little step

Two servo's and the rx (rx taken from my Merlin which will have to get a 5 ch rx now) are in. The little thing next to the rx is a servo slow down module for the flaps.
The servo's are simply glued in with the good old Uhu Por.

And no, it will not be pull-pull for the rudder.

Tail gear

Didin't had much time, did some tail gair work however.
  • Two 2mm x 0.4mm cf strips glued together
  • Very thin metal strip attached with superglue and a little M1 bolt
  • Servo horn with a M2 bolt will hold the fork
  • Have a rubber and a "superlight" wheel, I'm going to use the rubber one, less tearing off - both under 1 gram anyway

About that fork, fibre and epoxy would be the best idea to create the proper shape, but I don't have that stuff here. Second best could be vacuforming the fork. Found a good shape: One of my USB sticks

More later...

Puff...

Prototyped the vacuformed fork, didn't work. Next version will be better.

In the meantime, I made a custom motor mount out of 3mm carbon and some ply. Everything went well, very solid and ready. The ply plate on which the ESC is mounted will also hold the lipo down.

Lipo connected, tested the whole thing (all wires were insulated) with a prop attached and suddenly the Jeti Spin is gone. Created a hole in itself, complete with smoke. And puff... No idea what happened...

Ok, have to get me a new one then...

Outrunner is a Hacker EVO A20-34S by the way.

Besides connectors on the wires to and from the wings, no update. Have been busy.

Deceided on the wheels though, crosspost....

The landing gear will be either 3mm carbon as on my previous Cub or 3mm aluminium. Don't know yet

Well, this Cub is still waiting to be completed. I've planned to pick up the build again this weekend. Have been busy...

Give it a month to finish and then the Bobber project will start for sure !

I'd like to know a couple of other things.

Like how do you make a 3, 4 or 5 way joint? What do you drill the CF with?

I only got as far as 3-way joints. The two cf tubes that carry the most weight or get stressed a lot are fitted together with a paino wire inside. The third tube is glued on after getting a round notch to fit the other tubes.

Tubes are drilled by hand with a steel drill. Often using a mold in order to keep me square...

Picking up the pieces again

It has been a while, this weekend some build images, already started:
  • Tail feathers
  • Push rods for elevator and rudder
  • Wings, ailerons/flaps and perhaps covering and painting

Landing gear (soldered aluminium) due to somewhere next week and also a bit re-wiring, I switched to 2.4 Ghz along the road, so a new rx will go in.
