jet event

reno rc club is working towards a jets event this spring.
email from reno rc club

The club's next meeting is February 1st at 7:30 pm.
Skip Baltar is in the planning stages for an event in April.

This is more of an open to all invite than an actual event for now. I'm going to try to drum up some people at Coachella in a couple weeks.
High Sierra Jets April 8-9 2017 RENO, NEVADA
Runway is 620X70 paved with a small cross runway (290X50).
Covered area, a lot of workbench space BUT no power
It's only $20.00 for both days, or $10 for one day for non-members to fly.
It's out of town so no worries about noise, smoke, etc.
Dry camping is allowed at the field, and there are plenty of Casino and other hotels within 15-30 minutes of the field. There is food and a store about 10 minutes away.
One hole campground type toilet on site.
Enter through Pyramid Highway SR445, then west on Eagle Canyon Road. GPS on flyer
Email: desertlakesflying@yahoo.com to RSVP if you can make it please

Very cool! Will love to attend. At least these days I have more control over my schedule. I'll try to block this off. Can I fly a "TurboProp" jet trainer? It's not a real turboprop but it's a RAAF PC-21, simlated turboprop. It's 1/4 scale. It has a PT-6 turbine sound card in it so at least it's trying to be a turbine aircraft The PC-21 is the jet pipeline trainer that pilots go to before the F-18 or Eurofighter in several allied air forces.

Please join us this Thursday, February 28th at the Fernley S.T.E.M. Festival. Like previous years, we will have a static display and be flying before and after sunset. Free hot dogs and sodas provided. Details below:

Where: Fernley High School in the gymnasium
When: setup from 4-5. Flying and display 5-8pm.

Directions: school is on 95A south of town. Drive around the South end of the school, around the back and park near the North East corner of the school. This is adjacent to the flying and display location. Bring your aircraft to show off to the kids and if you have any night flyers, bring them too and be prepared to fly! See you there.

Phil from the reno club has been busy this winter. Here is one of his projects. A scratch built EDF A-4 skyhawk. He hopes to have the bugs worked out for next weekend.

This coming Saturday and Sunday is the jet event. From my understanding is that EDFs are welcome. It should be a good time.

Guys like us from the Carson City HSRC and Reno RRCC Clubs really appreciate the hosting of the "Friendly Fernley Reheat Rescheduled Rally", or F2R3... since the RRCC Jet Rally was washed away in wind and rain earlier in the weekend. (Reheat is what guys like Jim call the thing we call an afterburner).

We sincerely appreciate you all, especially guys who are not into jets, for allowing us to invade the pavement for an afternoon of fun and fellowship. We should have gotten a group photo. All I have is this pic of Paul and my ramp area on one of the few moments jets or scale planes of some type were not flying, preparing to fly or recovering from flight! The weather was down right therapeutic. So nice. I think we all needed the sun and aeronautical fun.

By the way, some of the most enjoyable flights were also watching Brad teach his grand kids to fly a proper electric high wing trainer in between sorties. Very cool!

Hi Robin! It was very much a pickup game of jet flying. Not official. I was having fun with the F2R3 name game. The official rally was cancelled out at RRCC that was supposed to be Friday-Sat.

I plan to attend the Castle AFB giant scale warbird and scale meet in May 25-29 (West Coast Festival Giant Scale Fly In @ Castle AFB, Atwater, CA.). I'll be Bringing the Spitfire and two other planes. My planes will be dwarfed by the "big boys" - for sure, it will be really cool to see what the truly dedicated in the field have created

To all club members -

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we need to reschedule the May club meeting to Monday May 15th. Please pass this on to fellow club members if you have contact with them and thanks for your patience.
