BEST smooth servo for GoPro gimbals?

Hi guys

Can you share your experience about best SMOOOTH rotating micro servos?

I'm testing my gimbal, but I'm not 100% happy with TowerPro servos.
They are working, but not as smooth as I need...

I can pay more, but I need warranty that servos will working smooth,
much better than TowerPro. Can you recomend any?

I have been playing with some one another mount here, the best results I have had are from the HG55. I have found that metal gear servo's tend to be a bit notchy when compare against the direct nylon geared equivilent.

Also helps is you can use a bit of gearing instead of a one to one ratio, so you have more servo movement for a given camera tilt movement.

Hyperion Atlase servos. They are digital and programable. Also they can move up to 175

a geared setup would be smoother as well

In this mount axis are reduced <> 1:1.5 (pitch) and 1:2 (roll).
Source of small vibrations are in servo I think.

I just back from local RC store - I have just bought pairs of servos:
TowerPro SG91R, Hitec HS-55, KDS 9g and I have one Hitec HS-65HB
and EMAX ES08MD.
Tomorrow I'll make some comparision with different pairs of gyros...

Any update on your findings? I'm using a direct HS55 and find the result very jittery:

No. Still EMAX is the best. Unfortunately not popular...

I'm thinking about my own servo production but this is madness...

We need fast, high resolution, jitter free, and smooth servos
Most servos are fast, low resolution, full of jitter, and not smooth.

Hi, I have worked on using servos for gimbals since the KK2 board had the capability to control them. First I'll show you what I did with HobbyKing's HXT900 servos. These servos were rebuilt from some stripped ones I had. I put them on the home made gimbal and used linkages to control the tilt and roll. Keep in mind the platform this gimbal was extremely stable in the first place. It was a Y-6 with 9x4.7 props and 1200kv motors with 24" booms. This made for an extremely stable platform for shooting video already. Add this cheap servo gimbal and this is what I got.
KK2, Scratch Built Gimbal, and Cheap Servos (3 min 3 sec)

Next up, is an Action Cam Inline Gimbal on my Rudi Quad, a sub 350mm quad with 8x4 props and 1534kv motors controlled again by the KK2 board. the shorter the distance between rotors, the more tricky it gets to make the platform stable. Any oscillation is noticed by the camera and cheap servos doesn't work very well at all. So I did a comparison and here are the results:
Servo Comparison for the ActionCam Inline Gimbal (4 min 0 sec)

This last video is after I got the board dialed in as best as possible so the quad would fly as smooth as I could get it. Then these servos did much better.
KK2 Camera Gimbal, Po Man's Aerial Steady Cam (1 min 26 sec)

My next scratch build gimbal will be a micro built with submicro servos to stabilize my HD keychain camera wired into a micro FPV transmitter. This one will be controlled by the KKmini and I plan to use it on at least two different platforms. One will be a singlecopter and the other a VTOL Plane. Hope you like this and I look forward to see what others post.
