New H9 Ultra Stick Lite 1.20

This new one from H9 has my interest piqued.

Take a look.

I'm thinking a C50 and some Lipos. I'll have to Motocalc things and see where I end up.

This does look interesting. Looks to have plenty of room for lots of batteries.

Let us know what you come up with here.

Just got my mailer and thought the same thing...C50 and TP LiPos

With a C50-13XL and 9 or 10s LiPos, it would have unlimited vertical. And it sure would be EASY to mount the motor and the packs!

So Mike do you have one in the works yet
I stoped by the LHS last night and there was one sitting there.
I opend the box it looks very interesting, I think it would make a great conv.
I can stop thinking about it ....
I have a C50 Acro 12xl sitting on my shelve at home it need a new home.... I don't know that may be a bit to low on winds
I will have to run some numbers when I get a chance

Thanks

I did Motocalc it. I started with 3x3S4P (9S4P) TP8200 packs. I came up with a C50-11XL 6.7:1 and an APC 18x10. I don't really know if that's ideal or not but it was the best I could come up with for that pack.

What I've done since then is watch a glow powerd Ultra Stick 60 at my field and decide that is probably where I ought to be. I mean the 1.20 will be pushing $1800 soup to nuts. That's getting awfully expensive for a simple ugly stick variant.

All that aside, it certainly would make a nice conversion. Heck the .60 size is plane too. Have you ever seen one fly?

I've seen quite a few glow/gas Ultra sticks fly. They fly GREAT, but are fairly heavy. Not sure of the Lite variant, but the non-lites are heavy, even for a glow plane.
Yes it is just a "stick" Someone with a bit of CAD experience could whip up one that will weigh about 1/2 as much. ( well close anyway ) Take GW's E-Stick, and make bigger controls. Split the ailerons for flaps, and it will be darned close to the U-sticks, and a whole lot lighter. True, not an ARF, but may be time well spent.

Well, the original Ultra Sticks were heavy. I think the new .60 and 1.20 lite are fairly light.

GW E-stick I think has a thinner wing with a shorter chord and tail moment. That's not to say that a person couldn't build one themselves that is lighter than the ARFS.

The major expense of a C50/Lipo powered Ultra Stick Lite 1.20 isn't in the airframe, but rather the 1300 some odd dollars it costs to power it.

I think maybe I need to see if I can get some dimensions of my friends Ultra Stick .60. and draw something up.

HUmm... didn't realize the wing was thinner on the E-Stick. The thick wing does add to the "magic" of the stick series of planes.

I don't want people to take what I said as fact here. The E-Stick looks to my eye to have a thinner wing, shorter cord and shorter tail moment. I haven't made any measurements.

Looks interesting. A C50-14xl, 6.7, 22x12, 9s4p will power it fine. It's almost the same size as my World Models Funworld - 70" wing, 1400 sq in, about 10lbs. The fuse looks kinda short like the Funworld. Won't be quite as good as a pure 3d plane.

That's interesting. I wouldn't have thought to try such a large prop. Say Motocalc shows nearly the same vertical preformance with the C50-15XL, but a 10amps less current.

Still too rich for my blood. I'm going to build the smaller .60 size one.

the 60 flies great. Steve Rojecki has one and I think there's a thread on it. With Lipos it would really fly great.

Not an ARF, but if I were looking for a stick type plane to put a C50 in it would be a Spoiler by Jerry Smith.
It spans 81" with about the same area as the stick lite.
It could also be built a good bit lighter.
