I've both the Spot-On 120 & the Spot-On 120R - 110 size - and both flew well, very competitive all through Advanced class.

Tai Ji was great, discontinued. Zen is kind of heavy and lots of bad tendencies.
Covering issues, lousy hardware...why not a kit?

I think the R means revised.
Here's a link to the site description;
Push "shop this model" to see the full page description and it's a Spot On 120 R.
Nice looking, seems to have a following.

If you are looking for a plane that will work with a small gas engine you may also want to consider the Monolog based on a Korean F3A design. The 110 version I believe has the option for a small gas engine, although I could have the full 2M version confused with it's smaller cousin.

I did have a Groovy 3A a few years back and it was a decent plane. I believe that the Spot On is probably a better flying plane however. The planes are inexpensive so they are not perfect and need a little work, but in the end, they fly well.

Good luck,

The original 120 is for 120 size engine, & the R - revised version - is for 110 class.

Here's my build thread on another site -

I have the Spot ON 120R and have fitted a DLE 20 to it.
theres a bit of work to achieve this but the result is worth it.
You'll to make up 2x 17mm nylon spacers and 2x 15mm nylon spacers.
You only need the cantilever arms of the engine mount and the soft mount hardware.

Once fitted the DLE provides way more poke than any of the intended 4 strokes can hope to deliver. the DLE will swing a 17x8 and the Spot on will pullout of a hover with a 17x6 XOAR prop.

I am awaiting a J'EN Minipipe and header for mine at the moment.

Oh the SPot on Flies like its on rails but there are some assembly issues to watch out for.
