Skeleton Cartoon Pitts (now with video)

This is what's on my workbench right now. Still finalizing various little design details. A number of things have been changed since these parts were cut. This set of "bones" is to work out details on, ballast with equipment to see if it ballances, etc.

Enjoy!

Gordon

Edit: The plane has flown now. Here are a couple of pictures of the finished plane. More detailed pictures are further along in the thread. And, here is a link to video.

Gordon, You said that you were going to skeletonize the pitts, but I didn't imagine that you would be so fast! Looks great! What's the span and how will you power it? I finally took mine outside, even with the ailerons being only on the bottom wing it rolled well. Yours should perform much better.

Gary,
I'm not fast. I started noodling around with it sometime in February. Carl Martin and I have been swapping ideas and drawings as we brainstormed together. Mine will be a Cartoon Pitts. Carl's will be an original design that has some echos of a Pitts in it.

Span is 14 inches and I hope to bring it in between 28 and 30g AUW. Equipment will be AR6400, two external linear servos and a Gasparin G15 Bee BL motor with a Heino Young YGE 1-cell BL controller. I went with the Gasparin motor because of its relatively low amp draw and 1g lower weight than an MM motor, which should allow using a 90mAh cell to save weight. In my experience AP03 motors are amp hogs and require larger cells. And, a MM motor puts out more thrust than this plane will need. Covering will be RA Microlite with painted on trim.

I'll paint it with painting masks like I did on my Toon Jet
https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show....php?t=1403892
The mylar is painted, then the individual pieces are covered, and finally the airframe is assembled.

Glad you guys like it. Since it's a "Cartoon" scale rendition of a Pitts, I intend to have an appropriate pilot in the cockpit: Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes.

Nice work Gordon! Are you planning on coupling the ailerons or using two bell cranks for them?

Fritz,
I'm going simple on this one, and taking a slight weight hit. I'll use two separate linear servos like the 4Site, and then connecting rods to link the top and bottom ailerons.

Don't we all wish he always provides PDF's though.

Gordon I don't know if you've seen the 4-Site aileron connectors or not but there super light and simple. It would be a good way for anyone to do it.

Sorry, no kits from me. I'm not in the kitting business.
