I agree 100%, although the previous comment may not seem it I was actually quite polite in the way I handled it but I know this type of person well and he just wanted to be angry about something. I am very good at keeping a cool head no matter what the other person says. I have been doing phone jobs too long. This field is used by a lot of R/C pilots and today is one of the rare days when I was the only one their so I am not worried about it getting taken away. Also I am moving soon so I will be looking for a new flying field soon anyway.
I am really unsure where all these horror stories are coming from about this plane. Mine came out of the box balanced perfectly, no dime in the nose or anything. This is my first time flying with ailerons and its been a piece of cake to learn. I have had this thing in the air every day since I bought it and the only time it let me down was when a wheel fell off on an ROG takeoff but I have decided that this is going to be a belly lander from now on anyway. Today I even started playing around with some aerobatics and I was pleasantly surprised, Did some great loops, rolls, and stall turns. Accidentally put it in a flat spin even and I managed to pull out of it with ease. |

This is just like the discussion in my club. Some hate the Corsair, and some have great fun with it. A club member actually gave me a Corsair, in good condition to me. He was tired of the whole model. I put a little weight on the nose, and have a blast with it. It's even possible to fly in a little wind.

I do have to agree with you, it's a great little bird and, with the CG issue fixed in the newer version, it's probably a better step up from the UM T28 than the Mustang. The dihedral in the wing tends to cause it to stabilize itself, which is great for new-to-aileron pilots, but limits the aerobatics a bit for more experienced ones. Like you, I've been very pleasantly surprised by my corsair - it's a well used older version, but once I fixed the CG, I have found it great fun. I generally don't use Expo or Dual rates, but yesterday I noticed that the elevator wasso sensitive it was causing the back end to "slide" into loops instead of tracking behind the nose. I set the low DR to 70% and the plane went from being a "pretty good" flyer to "pretty darned good". i still don't think my CG is quite right, though. It flies EXTREMELY well with 1/4 throttle or more, but when I come in for landing, it gets very floaty and tip stalls. I suspect I've got a bit too much down thrust, and my CG is still a bit aft, and the combination is fine while under power but works against me on landing. I broke a landing gear yesterday on a rough landing. I'll probably cut more foam out of the cowl and get the battery farther forward. |

I think I'm done with mine. Took it out yesterday for the first time in awhile , winds calm, and I just couldn't fly it. I had a handle on it the last time I flew, but it was just way too squerilly for me this time and I crashed it about 4 times, broke it again in all the same places. I think the airframe is just tired at this point and certain doesn't look good. Time to yank the guts I think.

The unfairly maligned corsair?
Okay - so two years ago, I thought about buying a UM corsair, but read the reviews and steered away from it. Ended up going with something Z8rc recommended (yeah, um, not so much. Live and learn). I've been eyeing this thing forever, and finally decided that if I could get a used one for a decent price, it wouldn't be as annoying if it turned out as badly as the Mosquito (yeah, again, not so much, live and learn x2).
So, I've had this thing for a week now and am enjoying it more and more. It's a great front yard flyer, and while it's not quite as good as the mustang, it's a very close second! I'd heard that she was sorely underpowered, but I've actually found her pretty fast - again, not quite the same vertical as I get from my mustang, but very close. Roll rates are slower, but very close. I did modify my older version corsair by cutting the battery slot farther forward, as seen in the pic, and with that change, she's an awesome little front yard flyer. |

Nice, I find my P51 slower to roll than the Corsair? I figured it was due to the dual AIL servo on the Corsair vs. the 1 AIL on the P51?! But I like both & always take them along camping to fly (along with the NightVapor!!) Put the micro Stryker servo covers on & have yet to take the gear off & try her out, one of these days, if I can pull myself away from the micro MiG, LOL!!!

Stuart -
Don't give up on it. Stuntman's right. This thing is an awesome little bird. I keep working on the CG/Trim and everytime it gets better and better. Don't tell my mustang, but the corsair is at least tied for my favorite 1S plane now. How can you not like a bent-winged bandit the size of a peanut scale rubber powered airplane? I was beginning to think mine had been upgraded to an XP motor by a previous owner, because it is definitely not underpowered! I still wish it had a LITTLE less dihedral for added "crispness", that's the one thing my Mustang has over it. Keep us posted Stuart and if it continues to be squirelly, post some pics of the battery placement, trim, control surfaces etc and maybe we can all help get it right. |

Mine is the updated version, but I fly using the standard battery and stock pushrod settings. The CG is just about perfect out of the box and I set my rates to 75%, with 20% expo and 35% differential on the ailerons.
My UM P-51 no longer exists, but the Corsair definitely rolls better, but it feels much heavier and must be flown more deliberately. (not a bad thing considering that it is supposed to be a warbird) I finally saw one of the 180BL motors in person- would the Corsair fly on the 180BL and a 1S battery? |

1S Brushless isn't very efficient and most make less power than a geared brushed motor. Geared brushless is a high dollar option, but most people go with 2S as the best solution. |

I'm not sure the wings would be strong enough for the speed!

Hey guys, been doin' a little catch up reading, the last ten pages to be exact.
I noticed that some of you are having the same problem with your planes as I did. Mine was absolutely uncontrollable right out of the box. I tried all the tricks & fixes I could find here but nothing worked. I was so disappointed in this little plane. During the preflight, everything checked out, throttle - up/down - check / flight controls - smooth and correct - check. I discovered one day the battery was the problem. It didn't have enough mAh to run the motor and flight controls at same time. Under power, the flight controls were very erratic. The control surfaces wouldn't move until I move the stick about half its travel, then they would jump to full deflection. When I released the stick, the control surfaces would stay at full deflection for a few seconds before they returned to neutral. I ended up taping two 1s 130mAh 25c lipos together in parallel and it flew just beautiful, "like it was on rails". Was wondering if any of you guys that are having problems with your planes live close enough to someone with a good flying plane to get together and fly each others plane and give us a report back as to what you discovered. I've read here that some with good flying planes don't understand why some of us are having such a hard time. |
