Are 70mm's Dead? IF not what would you like to see?


I still love 70mm jets. I know a lot of people are going 90mm these days I would like to see a Mirage, MIG21, twin70mm F-15 , Vulcan , F105 There is a thread on what 90mm jet but none on 70mm jets.

I would like to see some better foamy sport jets, something like a viper jet, but not like a concept x.

70mm is just a nice size. 90mm is all well and good, but sometimes there just isn't the space to fly the. A 70mm I can throw in the boot of my car and head to the beach.

I'd like to see some more Russian planes modelled. A foxbat would be nice, or an English Electric Lightning!

I'm liking smaller vs larger, lately. I don't even fly my 120mm Hawk anymore. The batteries are ridiculous, even at Turnigy prices, plus it's megilla to transport, field assemble, etc, etc..

Meanwhile, I'm having a blast with the J Power 50mm jets... Fling 3 or 4 in the trunk, and you're good to go for the afternoon

Yeah, year after year, we see fans getting bigger and batteries getting bigger. in 2008, a 3s/64mm was a pretty respectable setup!! Not long before that, GWS was pushing brushed fans and NiMH batteries.

I don't think 70s are dead though. They're just not the hot size at the moment.

70mm not dead here, heck I still fly 55-64mm too.

I'd like to see the Russian stealth PAK-FA.

I prefer 64mm to 70mm size jets myself. 90mm jets are usually larger and require more room to store and transport things.

I really think the 30mm, 40mm, and 50mm market is booming right now. Big things to come there IMO. The overall reduction of size and weight for batteries and other components has made these smaller planes very affordable to get into and also a blast to fly.

a scale intake and tail pipe F-86 like Scott Blacks F-86 .except a large hatch and retracts and flaps could be 42-45" wing would fly very well on the higher powered 70mm stuff...no catch and release large mouth Bass F-86,and throw in a mig to match it.

IMHO: Better to have variety. So I have some 50mms, 64mms and 70mms. 90mms and up are too big for my flying field and transport.

I can get 5pds of push using 6s\80amps out of HKs 5dollar T-50 fan and their 2630kv motor....not bad....and not a pocket buster either

it better not be dead...i just upgraded to 70mm from 55 and 64....
i agree the bigger it is, the more it cost. maybe someday when i hit the lotto i'll get to 90-120mm, but for now the 70 mm are really a good size.
also transportation would be an issue, unless you have a trailer.
i normally take one 70 mm to the field and about 5-6 planes, and that would last me the whole day and not get bored.

Twin 70mm F-15 means you have to have rotating retracts...which nowdays with the electric retracts seems to be not as big of an issue.

I like 90mm birds myself, and they seems small. My 63" long haoye F-18 4" edf conversion flies nicer than the smaller stuff.

My scratchbuilt 63" long F-22 with E Turbax is a lot more fun to fly than the original 46" long twin 480 version I built 6 years ago. Bigger is better!

With the cheap lipos these days 90mm isn't that expensive.

I wish E-flite would get a hold of the SkyAngel 50/55mm molds and start cranking them out with the following:
-ALL of the models have a LG option with a steerable nose
-offer them in KIT, PNP, and AS3X BNF
